I like Gil-galad as son of Orodreth for a lot of reasons, including that the line of succession makes more sense that way (Turgon shouldn't have become king if Fingon had a son).
But ALSO. Parallels.
I'm not sure if i can fully articulate it atm, but it's just the fact that Finarfin and Gil-galad, both pretty much dead last in line for the throne, had a kingdom placed on their shoulders not because they were ambitious or cunning but because there was no one else, and then go on to have the longest, most prosperous reigns out of any of their predecessors. For them to be great-grandfather and great-grandson just makes it all the more intriguing.
