Yeah, I’ve seen a couple different people drawing HS/SU crossover stuff, and I guess a crossover like that could lead to lots of different interpretations by different people... true

Would Vriska really fight to defend the earth tho?

Vriska’s not fighting for the Earth, she’s fighting against Homeworld and Earth is a convenient battleground.  Kanaya, though, she’s fighting for the Earth.  Kanaya loves plants and flowers and gardening and the Earth is beautiful.  She’s never seen such a variety of life and it’s painful to think of setting up a Kindergarten here and destroying it all.  (And if we’re including all the girls, Aradia would be a disposable foot soldier whose only destiny on Homeworld would be to fight and die on the front lines of an invasion, and she’s loving the freedom to explore and learn without the threat of a short brutal warlike life; and Nepeta loves the Earth’s animals - look at the bear!  The wolf!  The whale!  Big dramatic animals like this are SO COOL and don’t really exist on Homeworld - the closest they have a corrupted Gems and those are to be destroyed immediately.  Nepeta LOVES Earth fauna.)  Vriska couldn’t care less about the Earth but she’s bitter at Homeworld’s RULES and LAWS keeping her down because she wants to be a PIRATE and DO WHAT SHE WANTS so Kanaya’s love for the Earth (Vriska’s antagonistic with Aradia and usually indifferent to Nepeta, but she does like Kanaya) makes for a convenient excuse for her to turn on Homeworld and break away.

Course, she didn’t think that through very well and now she’s kind of stuck until this annoyingly backwards planet develops space travel.

Eventually Vriska herself (without anyone else’s knowledge) sends a message to Homeworld saying effectively WE’RE STILL HERE COME GET US IF YOU’RE BADASS ENOUGH with the hopes of stealing a spaceship and taking off.  In response, Homeworld sends Terezi, a battlefield lawyer, to get them, thinking that if there were only two of them, how hard could recapture and arrest really be?

(Kanaya is LIVID once she learns why Terezi is even here.  Vriska, how could you.)

But being on Earth can do strange things to a Gem.  There are so many colors, so fluid and bright and lively, and the whole Earth system is a living changing vibrant world, and there are even a few Gems here who are far less intense than the scary-strict hierarchy of Homeworld, and while Terezi thrives on scary-strict there’s something to be said for the different kind of justice Kanaya pleads for and as time goes on she’s not so sure she wants to go back to Homeworld after all...

Vriska and Kanaya would be Crystal Gems and Terezi is a Homeworld Gem sent to track them down and bring them back to face trial (and probably execution) for their treason

agree 100% about guriko, more guriko please. for the major antagonist, they really didn’t do much until the end?? their reasoning and motivations were not touched upon nearly enough.

Yeah - Guriko had the potential to be such an interesting antagonist, but so much was going on in the show that they didn’t get nearly enough focus.

Personally I think ghost-QMAY dude possessing Ito’s teacher didn’t need to be a character, Ito’s story could have been streamlined, and more time freed up to focus on Guriko.

Kuzupeko in a fairytale AU where no one dies and all ends well (unless you want there to be angst lol)

These two children have had enough pain and angst in their lives… haha… (crying)

(Oh my God this got so long.  It’s going under a cut.)

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu is the crown prince of a small nation constantly at war with its neighbors.  Because of (or, partially, causing) this, his parents, the king and queen, are ruthless and want to make sure nothing threatens their country, or their children.  So at a very young age Fuyuhiko was given a personal bodyguard, to be his sword and his shield, to live and die for him.  Peko Pekoyama was probably the illegitimate daughter of one of the knights or something - a baby nobody wanted, and so she was taken, and raised side by side with Fuyuhiko, and trained to be the best swordswoman in the kingdom, but probably given a specific scar or brand somewhere on her body to be a constant reminder to herself and the world you are a thing that belongs to the prince.

But… being the prince of a warlike kingdom where everyone’s constantly on edge for your safety can be a really lonely thing.  And Fuyuhiko wasn’t even that great at being a prince.  He tried, but he’s naturally a bit melancholic and sensitive and not very ruthless.  He tries to be.  He talks big.  But his prickliness and aggressive overcompensating for what he feels he needs to be but can’t bring himself to actually be just sort of falls flat.  His sister, Natsuki, now she’s great.  She’s fierce and cunning and everything a future ruler should be… but she won’t get to, because she’s the younger child.  It’s a dilemma.

It also means that Fuyuhiko basically has no friends, so he spends most of his time with Peko.  She was the only one he felt he could really talk to, the only person who’d listen to him, the only one who he didn’t have to be the Crown Prince Who Is One Day Going To Rule This Land And Command The Army for.  And in turn, Peko actually likes being with him too, because he’s the only person who treats her like a real human being with thoughts and feelings - talking to her about his life and asking her about hers, playing together when they were little, maybe he asks her to teach him how to use a sword (he is so bad at it) (they get caught and the queen reprimands them both harshly and then Peko is punished like DAMN and that never happens again. It’s sad.)

However, by the time they’re teenagers, the wars are going badly.  So the king and queen find an evil despair witch who lives deep in the forest and make a deal with her: she lends them her power and makes the kingdom unbeatable in battle, in exchange for their firstborn child.  (Despairwitch Junko doesn’t really have any need for anyone’s firstborn child, but she thinks it’s a traditional enough thing to ask for, and it usually causes people ~despair~, right?)

But for the king and queen, it’s kind of a win-win, because they can quietly get rid of their failure of a son and say “A witch did it”, and put their badass daughter on the throne, and also get super military power.  What could go wrong?

So despairwitch Junko uses magic to kidnap Fuyuhiko, and suddenly the kingdom gets really good in war.

Peko, however, is understandably really upset.  Her one reason for existing was to keep him safe and now he’s been taken by an evil despairwitch.  Now that nobody needs her or cares about her anymore (sure, minor-nobility-being-fostered-as-a-ward-at-the-castle Hajime Hinata considers her a friend and she probably would have noticed his “Oh my God there is something deeply wrong with this you are your own person and shouldn’t let the king and queen do this to you” pep talks more if she had spent more time hanging out with him, but hey), she sets out to rescue the prince.

The journey to Junko’s dwelling deep in the forest is long and arduous, and her home is guarded by three great dangers - but Peko overcomes them all, and at midday, when the witch’s power is weakest, Peko charges in and finds where she’s keeping Fuyuhiko.  Junko’s probably been low-key tormenting him out of boredom - she doesn’t really know what to do with a stolen firstborn child - and when Peko gets him the heck out of there she’s not even around and probably doesn’t even notice.

Peko wants to return to the castle immediately, but Fuyuhiko says “No, you know what?  Fuck them.  I’m not going back.  They sold me out.  And they were never anything but horrible to you.  Do you know what this means now?  We’re free.”  Peko tries to say “You have a duty to your family and your nation - “ and Fuyuhiko says “Fuck no I don’t.”

Peko won’t leave him, of course.  So they run away together and settle down in the nearby kingdom Novoselic, a prosperous one ruled by the benevolent (if eccentric) Princess Sonia.  (She’s one of the few monarchs these days who still employs a court wizard.  And he’s a weird court wizard.  He’s young, and no one’s sure if he can actually talk to animals like he claims he can, or if he can actually do real magic at all, for that matter… but Princess Sonia likes him a lot.  But that’s a story for another day.)

Peko catches the princess’s eye after she enters a royal tourney (because she and Fuyuhiko have no money at this point and hey, there’s a pretty substantial prize) and single-handedly beats basically everyone at everything.  Sonia asks her to be a knight of the realm, and she accepts.  Suddenly she’s now highly esteemed, and has nice clothes and a nice place to live and fancy weapons and fancy armor and her own horse.  She has a horse and it’s a big tough warhorse who isn’t afraid of anything, and certainly not her, and she has never been so happy.  (Peko becomes good friends with brash stablegirl Akane Owari, who likes sparring with the stablemanager’s son more than she likes doing actual work, but Peko likes taking care of her own horse anyway and Akane has a wild and unpredictable fighting style and is fun to spar against.)

For his part, Kuzuryuu is really enjoying being a nobody for once, with no expectations and no responsibilities being put on him.

But bad things are going on back in the Kuzuryuus’ kingdom.  By making the deal with her, the king and queen allowed Junko to get her foot in the door.  Though the kingdom has been conquering and expanding, Junko has been using her powers to cast her magic over the castle and, as her power gets stronger, over the entire land.  Pretty soon the army is unstoppable but the whole kingdom is under a curse, the princess is dead, the king and queen disappeared, and Junko rules, using the despairmagic-twisted Hinata as her figurehead.

Kuzuryuu and Pekoyama don’t hear about this until this army starts bearing down on Sonia’s kingdom.

Peko goes to the border to fight to protect her new home but the Novoselic forces are vastly underprepared for such an onslaught.  They retreat, and Peko knows that this is a war they can’t win.  Something needs to be done.

When Peko brings up going back to face Junko directly, Kuzuryuu flat-out refuses.  He doesn’t want anything to do with his old home.  Novoselic is powerful and has powerful allies.  The war won’t reach the capital.  He finally has a happy life, and so does she; what the hell was ever good or happy back home?

This isn’t about happiness, though.  This is about duty.  Kuzuryuu won’t go back and doesn’t want her to go back, but that night she sets out on her horse back to the place where she grew up.

Everything in the country is dark and DESPAIRing, and once Peko gets there the castle is fortified (both normally and with magic), but the servants who spend their lives unnoticed know ways in and out, and eventually Peko slips into the castle by some back way and seeks out Junko.  She gets in some fights with guards along the way but nothing will deter her and eventually she finds the despairwitch herself.

There is a BADASS BATTLE, but sword vs. magic makes for a pretty one-sided fight.  Peko is holding her own as best she can, but Junko can attack her from out of her range and is getting a lot more good hits in than she is.  It looks like it’s going badly for Peko when SUDDENLY the doors fling open and IT’S KUZURYUU HE CAME BACK AND HE HAS A CROSSBOW… but the crossbow bolt whizzes through the air and lodges itself in the wall because Kuzuryuu is kind of crap at most things fighting-related.

But Junko is taken aback like What?? Is this LOYALTY and LOVE and HOPE??  Where did THIS come from???  And Peko uses the momentary distraction to charge and plunge her sword into the despairwitch’s heart.

Junko screams and the sword shatters and everything is a whirlwind of exploding magic but when it’s over Junko is gone and the curse on the land is broken and everything’s back to normal.

… but the royalty is still all dead and disappeared though, and coming out of several years under a witch’s curse with lots of conquered territory and no ruler is going to plunge the land back into chaos very easily.  Fuyuhiko realizes this, and along with it realizes that he can’t just avoid his responsibilities anymore… so he stands up and says “Yeah I’m the lost prince who was taken by the witch.”

But nobody’s sure if they believe him - it’s been four years or so, when he disappeared he was probably like 15 and now he’s 19 and it might be him?  But it also might be some opportunist taking advantage of the power vacuum?  Everyone thought the prince was dead or imprisoned in a cave or turned into a lizard or something.

BUT THEN.  Peko reveals her scar that marked her as the prince’s bodyguard and says “As the designated official guard to the prince I can verify that yes this is the Prince Fuyuhiko returned.”  Which is good enough for everyone.

Prince Fuyuhiko becomes King Fuyuhiko.  He and Peko get married and lead the kingdom into peace and prosperity and cooperation rather than warfare with their neighbors.  (And nobody messes with their country because everyone knows that Queen Peko is the most badass warrior ever.)

And they live happily ever after.
