he waved in the general direction he thought the shop owner was, hollering out a final goodbye before letting the door close and digging a hand in his bag of candy. he pulled out a stick of rock candy and started crunching on it as he made his way down the sidewalk, keeping close to the stretch of stores so he could hear noises bouncing off the walls. he listened, watching colors bouncing around as vehicles went by and people talked. eventually he heard the beeping of the cross walk button and made a beeline for it, lightly punching it and patiently waiting. 

marfim heard someone step up beside him, seeing the pretty and warm color their step gave off and immediately getting excited about their presence. the blond lightly tapped the arm of the person, lifting his bag of treats with a friendly grin. 

“ hey- uh, want some? i accidentally got a lot of sweets from the shop back there. “

  well he didn’t need to be an asshole about it, but considering it was joseph, that must be the highest level of respect he’ll ever get. but just because it was joseph, doesn’t mean caesar was going to take this sitting down.

Green eyes, bright as the verdant splendor of spring, cast down to thin hands that were clasped upon the table. Those same eyes studied the hands of the woman to whom they belonged -- dainty wrists, slender fingers, perfectly manicured and pink-painted nails that belied sword callouses -- before rising to once again meet the mismatched gaze across from her. Contrary to popular belief, in spite of the pairs near constant snarking and sniping at one another, Zoe and Nessa were the kind of friends that didn’t allow anyone else to pick on the other. (Aside from the other two Shitennou, though those were mostly one-off jabs now and again.)

Still, when the Frenchwoman spoke, all of her talent went into making her smile appear as real as possible. Not that she didn’t trust Nessa with her vulnerabilities, rather she wouldn’t burden the taller woman with them... And she didn’t want to be kicked out of another cafe because Nessa decided to answer slights like misgendering with fists. “Ça va,” she murmured, making sure to keep her voice light, “it’s okay. It was probably just an honest mistake.” Having to wear the boys’ school uniform didn’t help. Inviting Nessa’s wrath for something that probably wasn’t meant maliciously by the server was a bad idea.

Besides, it wasn’t the first time, and it wouldn’t be the last.

“Isn’t it?” they whispered, staring at the ground so that their bangs covered their entire field of vision. Today hadn’t been a good day, depression and anxiety trapping their mind in a loop of look what you've done/haven't done, they would all be so much better off without you, even in spite of their therapy and affirmations and medication. And even if Kharim were somehow right (how could he be?), they were still useless. Completely extraneous. Wholly unneeded.

META TIME WITH CHAVI || ALWAYS ACCEPTING

OK, listen, you probably (absolutely) know more about them than I do but I’ll try my best to write this down.

So, the tricky thing about them is knowing exactly how old they were at the time. It’s easy to add the trojan war’s 10 years to their age but, the point is, these two knew each other since they were kids, they grew up together, they trained together under Chiron and fell in love and then they left for Troy to kick ass and have glory (mostly Achilles but still) and it’s canon that Achilles LOVED Patroclus as much as he loved his own life, he says it to his mother. “The man I loved beyond all other comrades, loved as my own life - I’ve lost him.” and his reaction to losing him, when he was told by Nestor’s son (if my copy of the Iliad is correct) “A black cloud of grief came shrouding over Achilles. Achilles lay there, fallen. Suddenly, he let loose a terrible, wrenching cry and his noble mother heard him and she cried out in turn.”

Achilles was SO heartbroken that even Thetis heard him. I’m borrowing from Metal Gear Solid but he would have a similar reaction to Big Boss when he had to kill his mentor, something along the lines of “Ever since the day I lost Patroclus, I... was already dead.” a part of him DIED when Patroclus did. Patroclus’ death was what turned the tide on the war by forcing Achilles to get off his ass and fight again. The point is, Patroclus balanced Achilles, he was his humanity, what kept him tethered to the mortal world and with him gone, Achilles was left only with the godly side and we all know how that worked out, his rage being so intense that he could’ve brought down Troy by himself had the Gods not intervened.

Even after his death and him being in the Throne of Heroes, his love of Patroclus is still there and it won’t change. He just wishes Patroclus could/would be summoned, they didn’t get that chance in the Underworld so a part of him hopes and wishes for Patroclus to show up, that way the two can be together again.
