Online Safety in Authoritarian Regimes?
Does anyone have any safety tips or resources about how to spread counter-news safer-ly while living under authoritarian regimes? I saw a bunch of posts a little while ago about diff secure(r) apps, browsers, etc to use but I haven’t seen anything about how to safer-ly spread news via social media or more public accounts. In particular, i’m thinking about like strategic tagging on here so that I don’t make my reblogs as accessible to people who will use them against me but also continuing to tag so people who want/need to hear about these things can and people can continue to use tumblr savior/blocked tags/etc.
For more context, tbh I’m like on/off anxious/paranoid about future scenarios where my reblogs/posts will be used as evidence against me in some capacity (see that post I made the other day about my mother texting me), so I wanted to start asking: Does anyone know of tips/resource guides about precautions to take, etc? I would imagine creating a unique email (that isn’t linked to any other email or personal info) would be one action but it seems like most email services require you to put in a 2nd email as a recovery thing. Plus two-step authorization is supposed to be a good safety measure but by necessity requires you to link whatever account to another personal account. Does anyone know how to navigate this stuff?
I’m torn about saying “ok to reblog” or not (like for the exact reasons I’m describing above) so I guess don’t reblog for now but like it’s ok to ask other people about this on my behalf? I guess if you follow me and we’ve ever communicated directly, I trust you to use your discretion.
