#day58 Le Marais is the only part of Paris that wasn’t destroyed in the 19th century during the period of the big renovation. It had narrow streets, immense city villas and the vibe you couldn’t find anywhere else in Paris. I loved walking around in the upper part of Marais where all the boutiques were - beautiful, pastel&beige boutiques. Boutiques were expensive and were often selling things with no functional value. But very beautiful. Cocktail bars were also something upper Marais was proud of. If you would throw a bomb on Rue de Bretagne, somewhere around apero time, you would kill 1/3 of world’s hipster population… Lower Marais was well known for the unique clash between Jewish and gay culture, for falafels and religious festivities as well as for the leather accessories and “ladies not allowed” places. I needed one whole year to understand the maze of the streets and how not to not get lost in them…Happy times.
