Uncovering Fables
Chapter 1 Part 3.1
As Maria finished reading, she slowly stepped back from the scroll and she glanced around. As darkness fell over her eyes, I knew that she was expecting something to jump out of the shadows and eat us but nothing did.
I looked between Maria and the scroll, my body trembling. When I tried to speak, the words were caught in my throat. I quickly swallowed my fear and stared at Maria. “W-What? What happened next? It just can’t end with ‘Hopefully I will return to bring good-‘and it stops. Please, it can’t. Maria… what happened next? He got out of it okay, right?”
Maria stared at me, trying to find the right words. “It… It ends there.” When she saw my look of fear, she quickly backtracked on her words. “B-But I bet they’re fine. It stopped because at that very moment, the researcher looked over and noticed the deadly creature at the foot of the cave! The researcher quickly backed away as monster jumped out at him and swiped his deadly claws at him, splattering blood everywhere! But the man wouldn’t go down that easily. They started a battle to the death where only one will win! It was long and gruesome but eventually the researcher came out on top and defeated the beast! And because of this… everyone congratulated him and gave him the recognition he deserved and everyone was okay. And the beast is-“
Before Maria could finish her attempt to help me feel better, something trembled above us. The two of us stared at the roof, trying to figure out what happened as some loose pebbles in the roof lodged itself out and fell to the ground, bouncing.
As a chill went down my spine, Maria continued to speak, quieter this time. “And even if that didn’t happen. That monster is dead. He couldn’t have survived all of these years so we’re safe.”

Logan Sanders fell in love with Patton Hart at precisely 5:37pm on a Thursday evening.
He’d been ranting about nebulas for ten minutes and seventeen seconds when his face started to heat up. He was talking too much, as usual.
His mouth had snapped shut as he waited for Patton’s sigh of relief that never came.
“So does that mean new stars are born in graveyards?” Patton asked instead, eyes wide as he propped his head in his hands.
Logan opened his mouth to launch into another long explanation and then caught himself for the second time. “It takes quite a while to explain. I’m sure there are other things you’d rather do.”
Patton had tilted his head, blinking blankly back at Logan. He didn’t even understand what Logan was getting at. “I like listening to you though.”
“You do?”
Then, Patton had smiled in that way he does, where his eyes crinkle and his cheeks turn pink. “I could listen for hours.”
“I see.”
“Besides, the universe is cool! It connects us all! And it’s comforting to know that no matter where you are, you can always look at the same constellation as the person you love.”
That was the turning point for Logan, the point where he realized that his brain may only hold enough information to talk for a few days about facts without a break, but he could talk about Patton for the rest of his life and never run out of things to say.
At precisely 2:48 on a Tuesday morning, nearly two years later, Logan Sanders is still in love with Patton Hart.

I'm pretty sure this is coercion bro. Real mature to make them fear losing their reputation to force them to stay here.
Unbelievably enough, I think I'm starting to get why Taiga is doing this... he and his team performed under emotional distress, so he's recreating those circumstances for them.
Is what I would say if he didn't make them perform immediately after dropping that bombshell on them! RAD WEEKEND had to have at least 1 month of preparation after learning about Nagi, not 1 second!
Lethe
In Greek mythology, was one of the five rivers of the underworld of Hades. The Lethe flowed around the cave of Hypnos and through the Underworld where all those who drank from it experienced complete forgetfulness.

Note: The O.C.C.B. is short for Organized Crime Control Bureau. Oh and apparently Erik is Bruce Wayne.
---
He can only describe the feeling as surreal, listening to Charles recount the story of their lives these past four years with Erik as the troubled hero. How his mentor transferred to the O.C.C.B. and he followed a few months later, taking on more and more cases with Shaw’s support and encouragement. How increasingly long days and late nights became the new norm for them both, as Erik embraced his responsibilities with fierce pride and enthusiasm and Charles wrestled with his course load and his dissertation for a second PhD. Until they were mere strangers and visitors in each other’s lives.
Charles relays the information with the detachment of an academic, though it clearly pains him to recall the events. He glosses over much of the details – forgotten dates and all-night stakeouts, lonely meals and a cold bed; details he gets later from Raven, who’s happy to disclose his failings as husband to her beloved big brother. The end of their marriage happens over the course and distance of weeks and months, a slow and steady weariness creating a chasm too wide to bridge.
“We never talked about it?” he asks, wondering how either of them could have let their relationship deteriorate beyond repair. “Didn’t we try to fix things between us? Did we...when did we stop loving each other, Charles?”
The other man hesitates and the conflict is clear on his face, whether he should protect Erik from the ugly truth or to lay it out plain. “We fought more than we talked, Erik. You were so angry; you didn’t think I understood how important your career was to you. Angry that I would even question why we were still together when we barely spent time in the same room. And I was angry – angry that you thought I was making you choose. Angry that if you did choose that I would lose.”
Erik doesn’t feel any of the emotions Charles describes, disconnected as he is from the events that have so dramatically changed their lives. He wants to be furious at them both for laying waste to their four year marriage but can muster nothing but a bone-deep ache at the bitter loss.
“You let Shaw push you,” Charles continues, his voice hoarse and strained. “He pretended to look out for you while he took credit for all your hard work and still you didn’t stop. It was like you were obsessed; that every criminal you arrested would get you a little bit closer to avenging your father’s death.”
A death that haunts Erik for its senselessness and brutality; the shooting of an innocent man in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“…I asked Edie not to get involved but you know your mother does as she pleases, Erik. Though it didn’t make a difference really. Things were…broken between us and there wasn’t anything anyone could do to fix it.”
“How long?” he interrupts and Charles looks up distractedly, shaken from his memories by Erik’s voice. “How long have we been separated?”
“Our divorce was finalized almost a year ago. A year next month actually,” Charles answers with a sad smile.
“And are we still friends at least? Tell me we haven't lost each other completely.”
Charles shakes his head, thumb hurrying to brush the lone tear sliding down his cheek. “No Erik, we’re not. This is the first we've seen or spoken to each other in over six months.”
