My surgery is tomorrow. I'm nervous as fuck. Well not yet, but I know I'll be anxious tomorrow morning. Can't wait to get this over with.
Day 4 after partial thyroidectomy---
On the mend! I can talk almost normally for a minute or two and I'm eating normal foods again. Still sleeping in the recliner since lying down makes the incision/neck feel more swollen.
I'm also still feeling a bit shaky/dizzy and need to rest a lot—could be a bit of anesthesia still in my system or my body adjusting to the sudde change in thyroid hormone output. I'll see the surgeon and my local endo next week and we'll start testing to see whether or not I need synthroid. Even though the remaining lobe is still shrinking from Hashimoto's it may be able to compensate on its own for now.
In addition to not hyperextending my neck I'm supposed to avoid whispering, loud talking/shouting, and singing for 6 weeks. I think having a good talking voice this quickly post-op bodes well for a full voice recovery :)
Am I badass yet?
I came out of surgery around 10am, went home around one, and now I honestly feel pretty good. They gave me a ton of preemptive nausea meds and some pretty good pain meds on top. I'm just a little dizzy and throat hurts a bit. The actual surgery went fantastically - no complications, no real issues with anesthesia, super lovely nurses. Thanks for your prayers, messages, and replies. Love you all!
I'm a fat kid..
I will and do eat through the pain!
