He used magic to light a cigarette. A bit inappropriate, to show off the abilities of the royal family. Admittedly, he was teasing Gladio a little bit by showing off, though he did prefer it to using a lighter.

"It is true, unfortunately. I have more proof besides parlor tricks as well, should you need it," He answered. "Pictures of my self over the years, artifacts, paintings, I've even tracked down some museums that feature my pretty face."

Ardyn didn’t react outwardly as he lit a cigarette, a master at keeping a casual facade. But inside he was going over what might have tipped him off. Was it the immortality or his relationship to the prince he wondered. Mors did come out looking a bit like himself, but was Noctis familiar with his grandfather’s face? Besides that he and Somnus’ different mothers meant Ardyn had darker skin than most Lucis calem’s. Usually more than enough to throw them off.

The night before he’d also taken a lethal blow in a fight. But he was sure they had simply thought him bruised, and he had passed and returned in the privacy of a separate motel room. Just general suspicion perhaps? He took a deep inhale of his cigarette and blew it out again.
