Indulging in my obsession/passion with the Dutch and Portuguese blue and white tiles…Each one of these is hand formed, hand painted, glazed and then fired to high temperatures. There’s one darker ornament in the 1st photo that shows how the blue becomes darker after firing. These earthy blues and greens perfectly capture the approaching bad weather we had the other day in my little corner of the world. I say bad weather we had rain for about 20 mins which barely wet the ground but the skies took on a greyish hue and the wind picked up a bit. Twelve+ years ago, I took an oil painting class at Ethos, my favorite Café in Cairo, Egypt, and this was my first ever oil painting! It was based on digital art that I found on deviantart, but I now have no idea who the original artist was. I never sold it and never intend to, but I wish I could thank and give credit to the original artist who made the inspiring piece that helped me learn to paint with oils. It took me a month to finish this painting, layer after layer, learning how to blend, shade, and use oil paints safely. I’ve always loved abstract figures and art made of very simple lines/curves line, especially art that shows lovers intertwined. I had this old pour that I added several layers on to create a certain texture with colors peaking through, and today I thought I would combine that piece with an experiment in abstract faces. I’m back from vacay and finally creating again! So happy to be home and painting ♥️. Today I was making coasters, and plan to use this set for my own living room after I resin it.
