#UfuomaeesTop10 #BibleVerses No.1 John 13:34 So, we've reached the end of my #topten Bible verses. I'm sure there are no surprises that this is my no 1 verse in the whole Bible! Especially if you're an avid ready of my blog. You would have seen many references to this verse as I addressed many issues. There is one other verse like it, and even though it didn't make my top ten, they could share this position. It is John 15:12, when Jesus said: . "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you..." . I like the duplicity, because it lays emphasis and I also love the fact that the verses are slightly different. That makes the message even clearer. In John 13:34, Jesus introduces this commandment and calls it NEW. . People would have been wondering, how is it new? Didn't you say all the Law and Prophets is summed up in LOVE? What's new in this commandment? But like I said yesterday, the newness, difference and superiority in this commandment is in the phrase: "AS I HAVE LOVED YOU". The superiority is in THE CROSS, an illustration of #unconditional, #sacrificial, #liberating and #enduringlove. This phrase is repeated in verse 35 also. And in John 15, Jesus went on to explain that there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for his friends...which is the way He loved us and the way we should love one another. This teaching is superior to "Do unto others as you would have them do to you..." (Luke 6:31). . It isn't based on human relationships or examples of love but on God's divine love, which surpasses all definitions of #justice and grace. It is the kind of love that: . "Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things..." (1 Cor 13:7). . This is what we are called to as Christians. This is Christ's commandment to us. This sets us apart from the world and any other #religion. This is the LAW of the New and Better Covenant. #UfuomaeesTop10 #BibleVerses No.6 John 8:32 This is the ultimate liberating verse. It comes with a prerequisite...a condition that you are truly a disciple of Jesus, by continuing, abiding in His teaching (verse 31). The full message Jesus is communicating in these two verses is "if you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciple, then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free..." For me, this knowing of the truth is a different level of knowing... It is a knowing with understanding. When we start following Jesus, we follow what we have been taught or what was revealed to us, without fully understanding, but growing in understanding as we continue to trust and obey... But when we have been #faithful, when we are tested in this faith, but #overcome and continue to #abide by His word, we come to a true understanding, and our knowledge is sure. And when you have such understanding, you are FREE from deception. It is hard, probably impossible for the Devil to deceive you again, as Jesus said of His Elect (Matt 24:24). Jesus knows that His teachings are not easy to accept, especially in this world filled with contrary wisdom and foolishness, but He said something remarkable, which ties into this: "Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own." (John 7:17). Jesus is basically saying test me on this...follow and obey me and you will soon know for yourself...and you will be free, as a mature son/daughter who is able to come in and out (John 10:9). However, when we do not abide in Him, nor continue to trust and obey, we are easily derailed from the path of truth and #righteousness. Like a seed sown on stony ground, we will have no roots and will not be able to bear fruit. We will be ever learning, but never coming to the knowledge of the truth. We will not be free. But as Paul says; "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery..."
