How to save the planet doing nothing out of the ordinary
Yes, you heard me right.
A couple initiative everybody should know about :
Ecosia and Lilo : the search engines who use their benefits to spur change
About Ecosia : this German search engine uses its benefits to plant trees around the world. It is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch and Swedish - but of course you can do a search in any language.
Ecosia uses the ad revenue from your searches to plant trees where they are needed the most. By searching with Ecosia, you’re not only refor
About Lilo : this search engine is only available in French and English - but then again, if you're confortable enough in English to read this post that shouldn't be a problem. By creating an account, you can collect "water drops" and then give them to a social or ecological initiative - the initiative will then receive a part of Lilo's benefits depending on how many drops the users awarded them.
A couple initiatives supported by Lilo :
Want to help have a positive impact on the world? Easy! Just pick a new search engine!
My Lovely Planet : a video game which impacts reality.
(Nothing like Sword Art Online though, promise.)
Lilo's creator is creating a free app in which planting a tree or cleaning the ocean in-game results in those same actions happening somewhere in the world, thanks the money collected with advertisement and optional purchases. The game consists in taking care and developing an island, a bit like Animal Crossing or many other mobile apps.
This game is only a project still, its crowd funding have reached its goal yesterday and finishing on June 22nd. The beta version should be available for the funders by the end of June. Unfortunately all the information I've just relayed is only available in French today, and it might be some time before English speakers can discover it. If you're interested in hearing about new developments regarding this project, just give me a sign and I'll keep you updated.
What I love about those initiatives is that since no effort is needed to take part, anyone can make an impact even if ecology is far from their priority or if they don't have the means to be an activist.
