9 whole eps,,,,,9 WHOLE FUCKING EPS

bit of a rant about the therapy game live adaptation bc even tho i do like the cast and i enjoyed watching it, i need to put these thoughts somewhere

lowkey what was up with therapy game ep 8, like i get that they might’ve wanted to make full use of the actors for the side charas but why is itsuki narrating minato’s trauma for him and minato is just left sitting in the attic crying while shizuma goes off on a monologue,,,,,,,,,,,

ep 5 was one thing cause they could’ve still spun it into a sort of “minato and shizuma get into a situationship without rly addressing anything” esp in regards to minato’s trust issues and insecurities, but we didn’t even get minato openly confiding in shizuma about the fear of turning out like his mother bc she would constantly say how alike they are??? the past events (the affair and the suicide) are one thing, but we never get minato talking about it to shizuma and at least addressing how it affected their relationship like how he did in the og manga

it kinda felt like they leaned a lil too heavily into minato’s softer personality without completely addressing the tough front he puts up. yes, we do see the solo shots of minato suffering alone on the rooftop trying to convince himself he’s fine with feeling lonely so that he doesn’t disturb shizuma, but my issue with how he’s written in the live adaptation is that we haven’t rly been able to see him address things on his own terms in a proper conversation. the closest we got was him talking to shizuma’s friends over the phone while he was trying to find shizuma in his hometown, but the moment in the attic feels one sided bc everything we hear about minato’s past is addressed by itsuki when in the og manga he understood that it wasn’t his place to tell. the attic scene ends up being reliant on shizuma to carry the emotional weight of it all cause he’s the one with all the knowledge even though minato’s the one who’s shown with the baggage.

obv there is sth powerful in itself for shizuma to be giving minato that choice, bc it says a lot about how shizuma’s laid himself bare time and time again and willing to be vulnerable for minato’s trust and comfort, and minato taking the lead in return like he finally has the opportunity to do something for shizuma on his own terms and not out of circumstance (like how he stays quiet about being lonely so that he doesn’t put pressure on shizuma). but then minato’s character becomes almost too passive for how he was, like they sort of lost that tough or even coy side to him that honestly, was still in the og manga anyway despite all his insecurities, like itsuki provokes him still in the adaptation but minato doesn’t rise to the bait.

idk, there’s something uncomfortable about how minato’s trauma and the consequential issues that came from it were addressed. ep 8 was probably the weakest for me in terms of storytelling. it wasn’t like the mito brothers’ past weren’t already being narrated in the manga, but i don’t understand why itsuki is addressing minato’s trauma for him when the adaptation already built up minato’s lack of communication in regards to minato and shizuma’s relationship

#patchy vents #yes i was watching this at 2 am and yes i still wasn’t impressed #ep 5 already had me ??? but when they played into the situationship angle i was on board #ep 8 just kinda floundered and missed for me. genuinely did not feel anything for that attic scene #my only thought was that shizuma was talking way too much for sth that was supposed to focus on minato’s past trauma

kinda get all the bitching about the new patch update story cause. that whole pink sequence was so long and boring i was dozing off in the middle of it 🥴🥴

also don’t get why ppl act like you didn’t read any of the ampho story if you didn’t like how pinky was written as if we hadn’t been following a completely different guy for the first half of the story only to basically be replaced by not even his childhood friend who was also making sacrifices behind the scenes but an ai version of her that we’re supposed to treat as the same person bc they supposedly fused(?) or at least she was fed the memories and data of said friend,,,,,

#patchy things #patchy vents #<- technically #her entire chara feels like a very traditionally stereotypical otaku waifu bait yk #like the constant y/n stuff between her and tb almost feels outdated to me????? esp considering official constantly shows caelus with her #ofc you can say the same for dan heng but at least he did have his whole arc before ampho and march was also there #idk the emotional build up wasn’t rly there even including her time as mem #bc we spent most of the story following phainon and then later og cyrene. our attachments are to them and not demiurge #the whole sequence between og cyrene and demiurge feels like we’re supposed to carry any emotional attachment we had for cyrene over to demi #but cyrene herself didn’t rly play a big part in the story until post-phainon cause we only knew her as phainon’s dead childhood friend #the writing is such a mess and it’s making it hard to get through the rest of the update ://////
