chiaki had been about to open her mouth to respond when asano corrected herself. despite everything that had happened in the past year, a ghost of a smile rose up on her face at the other woman’s assertion. she does... actually seem like a kind person, she reflected. we have a short supply of those these days. everyone seemed to be on edge, short-tempered or sorrowful, with little patience for others. she supposed she couldn’t blame them.
“there isn’t much to talk about,” chiaki stated quietly, hating that she had to lie but continuing anyway. “i... lost my entire class in the reserve course riots. i’m lucky to have survived, myself.” that school had been more her home than any other place. even now, knowing the vile things that had gone on behind the scenes, she still missed it.
“ah.” a realization hit her. “i got a bit side tracked... sorry. i brought some case files over for you to look through. some places got hit by remnants and we’re trying to single out the most likely culprit.”
given the true identity of the remnants, it was no wonder she’d forgotten where she was for a moment. but chiaki held her tongue, not offering an explanation as she held the folder out to asano.
