Follow up to my thoughts on Patlabor 3, while much like the first two it doesn't focus on Izumi, it ALSO doesn't focus on SV2 in general. Its more like, a story that takes place IN the world of Patlabor, than a full on Patlabor movie.
And while I get why that'd turn people off, at least in THIS story when Izumi was put in the sidelines it was because she wasn't actually the protagonist, where as in the other two they completely forget that she's the one in the god damn MECH suit and following her would be MORE interesting than seeing Gotoh and some random cross eyed jack ass argue about philosophy for five minutes.
Also 35 minutes, in there's a fucking kaiju in Patlabor 3, its essentially the Thing by way of Godzilla by way of Patlabor by way of Noir and I love it!
Patlabor WXiii a.k.a. Patlabor 3 is the best Patlabor film, straight up....granted that's...PRETTY much by default as the first one was super slow with a weird antagonist, and the second was just a stretched out version of episodes 5 & 6 of the OVA but with WORSE animation, as well as both being overwritten arthouse trashfires that overanalyze minutia as if it means a damn thing-BUT STILL...Mamoru Oshii is over rated.
