Sorcery & Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot - Patricia Wrede & Caroline Stevermer Well, this was a much easier read for me than my last post!😅 This is an epistolary novel set in early-nineteenth century England. It reminded me strongly of Jonathan Strand and Mr Norrell, which is ironic since Sorcery & Cecelia was first published in 1988! I really enjoyed Sorcery & Cecelia,What's not to enjoy? Mystery, magic, a little romance and Regency England! It's a delightful fun read. The novel consists in exchange of letters between two cousins, Kate and Cecy. At first, it's all rather mundane, tea parties and such, and then a witch tries to kill Kate. (Don't worry, it's all one big error.) The plot progresses between Kate in London and Cecy in the country, and sometimes, it's a bit of a bumpy ride: Apparently, Wrede and Stevermer initially each wrote one voice, not knowing what the other will answer. Although they reworked later, it's still a little messy, which is not a major issue. The girls are plucky, daring and proactive characters, very likable ! “In short, if we wish to see anything sensible done about the situation, we will clearly have to do it ourselves.” Perfect last words! #sorceryandcecelia #patriciawrede #carolinestevermer #sorceryandceceliaortheenchantedchocolatepot #regency #romance #fantasy #bookstagram #instabook #bookstagrammer #reading #lovereading #epistolarynovel #book #books #iamreading #bookaddict
