Hi anon! YES I take requests!
It's been a while since the last time I wrote a fic with Patrick, soooo I did my best lol.
Here's the fic! I hope you like it! 😊☝
"YOU'RE RIGHT"
Patrick was thrilled to have you on the team.
Your recent addition didn't seem to sit well with Lisbon, who had repeatedly remained on the sidelines during conversations about the cases they were handling, something Jane (of course) noticed even though she hadn't said anything.
That day's case was something out of the ordinary.
The body of a woman had been found hanging from the highway overpass that connected the road to the city.
Traffic had come to a standstill, as several drivers had stopped to see what was happening.
This is why Lisbon called for reinforcements to set up a security perimeter around the area so they wouldn't be disturbed by any civilians and could do their job in peace.
Within minutes, the police did their job, and after the body was taken down, normal traffic flow resumed in the area.
"She looks bad," Patrick commented. "That's from being in the sun too long," he added, making you smile, while Lisbon rolled her eyes at him. "Too soon for jokes?"
"Not at all…"
"A little soon, yes," Lisbon interrupted, exchanging a sidelong glance with you. "Shall we focus?"
"Okay, my bad," Jane murmured, giving you space to examine the evidence more closely.
You stared at the poor woman's body for a few seconds before looking up at Lisbon.
"Her husband killed her," you blurted out, making both her and Patrick's eyes widen.
"There's no way you know that," she muttered. "We don't even know her name, where she lived, what she did for a living…"
"It's not necessary to know any of that," you interrupted, before beginning to explain. "Her clothes were perfectly ironed when they hung her up, which means she had just left the house," you continued. "A house located in the most expensive part of the city, judging by the gold watch she was wearing, which wasn't a gift from her husband," you explained. "This woman was cheating on her husband with another man." You gestured to the body. "This is a crime of passion."
"Nothing you just said makes any sense." “Lisbon sighed, glancing at Jane. “We shouldn’t even be listening to her. Why are we paying attention to…?”
“She’s right,” Patrick murmured, Lisbon turning to look at you. “She’s right about everything,” he affirmed. “The victim’s clothes were freshly ironed, as you can see the small water stains left by irons when you quickly iron something on the shoulder of the shirt,” he pointed out. “Then there’s the watch.” I must admit that the fact it's gold suddenly distracted me because no lover would give a woman something so expensive, unless…
“…the killer is a wealthy man,” you continued, your gaze fixed on him.
“…who lives in the same area as this woman and her husband,” he added, smiling.
“…and who could therefore be aware of each and every one of their movements,” you finished.
A few moments passed as you stared at each other, until Lisbon's voice broke the silence.
“Okay, maybe after the explanation some things will start to make sense,” she conceded, “but how do you know the husband didn't give her the watch?”
“Because if he had, he would have put his initials on the back…” Patrick said, as you took the watch off his wrist and turned it over.
There was nothing engraved on it
“…and that’s not the case,” you finished for him. “I knew first.”
“I don’t know… I think we realized it at the same time” he laughed, making you laugh too.
“Okay, Jane, if it makes you feel better…” you murmured.
“Patrick” he corrected you politely, as was his way, “we’ve been working together for a while now, you can call me Patrick.”
“Okay, Patrick” you whispered, exchanging a knowing smile with him.
