It’s become quite common for me these days to shed light on the extreme bias and falsehoods being thrown at us from The Southern Poverty Law Center. It seems author Alejandro Beutel has a personal vendetta against American Patriot groups that love their country, but why?  We will dive into that in just a moment.

Paranoid Patriot

I need my gun. The army is going to invade my state and take it over for the government. Nevermind that my gun is a twelve gauge. It will work. I can kill a man at two hundred yards with it if I put a slug in it. I'm an excellent shot. I ain't scared of no soldier for Uncle Sam. They crossed the wrong Patriot when they entered my state intent on taking over my land. You betcha they did. I've had weeks and weeks of training on how to survive in the wild and I know a lot about how to take care of myself. These pansies have no idea of the world of hurt they just bought for themselves when they invaded my land. Now, all I have to do is squeeze this trigger and start the war …..

            Sounds crazy doesn't  it? The thing is, it really isn't that crazy to a subset of our populace. They breathe insurrection on a daily basis. They listen to it from their internet preachers, who claim that various government officials, especially our President, have gone rogue and are subverting the Constitution for their own evil agenda. They believe it is their duty to defend their land and America from this evil. Unfortunately, that extreme rhetoric has been reinforced on national television for the last twenty years by Fox News, so what was once a far right fringe is less fringe and more accepted.

            When I was going to high school and in college these groups were considered dangerous. They were being monitored by the FBI and other law enforcement groups and only truly extreme people usually joined the patriot movements because they were often entwined with religious cults or white supremacists. When I was in college I actually spent some time with one group because I enjoyed the outdoor mentality and didn't quite realize how far down the rabbit hole the founder had gone. That's always the thing though. Charismatic leaders can get normal people to do very stupid things if it is put to them in what seems reasonable terms. This was before Waco and Ruby Ridge where the American government made drastic mistakes trying to apprehend patriot group members. These incidents increased patriot group numbers until Oklahoma City and people got to see the truly evil side of what a number of Patriot groups were like.

            I could spend all day arguing against these types of organizations, but I won't. We know their dangers. We have numerous examples of what damage a terrorist organization can do when it wants to, and certainly some of the patriot groups that dot the country from Florida to Alaska are terrorist in nature, but not all of them are. Some of them really do want to preserve what they think the Founding Fathers intended by creating the Constitution - or at least I hope so. I think sometimes though that they are inundated with false information on what that entails, especially if they are constantly listening to Fox News and other hard right internet types who are reading the "Patriot" handbook.

            I am thinking along the lines of the Jade Helm conspiracy theorists here. First off, the army, marines, or other military branch can't invade a state. This is their country. They belong here and are stationed here. If you love this country and support the troops as you always claim, you would know that. If the President, whom you claim to be lawless, gave an order to the military to "invade" a state they would look at him as if he had gone nuts. They have a credo to defend the country against enemies both "foreign and domestic". In this case, using the military to attack civilians without any just cause is blatantly unjustified. That would certainly have a LOT of generals questioning his reasoning and authorization. Using the military in an unjust manner and killing large numbers of civilians can be cause for war crimes trials, and "just following orders" is NOT a valid excuse. Just ask the many NAZI's we executed during WWII who tried that defense.

            I only bring up Jade Helm because it is still going on, and a lot of the so called patriots are following the real patriots around and antagonizing them. Reports are surfacing now of shots having been fired at military members not once, but twice at least. I cannot stand that the cowards who parade around in their borrowed khakis and play at war games and survivalist techniques are threatening the lives of the men and women who are the real patriots to this country. Do us a favor you paranoid lunatics. Put away your play time clothes. Go down to the recruiting office, and sign up for a two, four, or an eight year term like the rest of us, and prove your worth to the country. Even if you can't finish your entire tour of duty, I will have more respect for you than I do now. You will have at least proved you were willing to die for the rest of us to uphold the rights that we should all have, not just you.
