How to grade a sewing pattern
Grading up or down from a single size.
Now I am so tempted by some of those Vogue patterns that have caught my eye. Vogue is not size inclusive so if I want to use their patterns I will have to grade them up.

Resizing a Sewing Pattern up or down
This starts from a multi-size pattern, the previous video I shared works from a single size pattern (such as vintage patterns).
Hi knitbro! I have pledged to make my sister thigh-highs for Christmas, but I can't find any patterns in her size. Any advice on scaling patterns up? Should I be taking measurements?
definitely do take measurements, because thigh-highs are a snug garment that requires a close fit to stay up.
you’ll want to design in a bit more negative ease, and perhaps consider knitting in a bit of elastic thread around the top. i mention this in relation to re-sizing the pattern because, although it’s a good idea with any tall socks, the more stitches there are, the more the fabric weighs, and therefore the more it wants to scrunch down. also the negative ease designed into the original pattern (in terms of inches/cm/stitches) becomes a smaller percentage of the total if you don’t scale that up too. i learned this the hard way by taking a women’s knee-high pattern and sizing it up to make myself SUPER TALL LUMBERJACK SOCKS WHOO, and ending up with something that kinda slips down and pools on my boot tops. :P
you might also want to look at patterns for men’s kilt hose; those are often designed to accomodate mighty calf muscles, and even if they don’t match her size, they might give you some ideas for how to do the shaping.
