i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.

(I don’t hold my mouse any of those ways–I have a wrist support on my mouse pad, so the *looks up parts of the hand* the heel of my palm is not in contact with anything, while the fleshy part below my fingers rests on the mouse and I do my actual clicking with the pads of my fingers, really close to the first joint, and it’s the joint itself used when I center click, but I do scroll with the tip of my finger–index finger is used for both the left button and the scroll wheel–and it rests on the scroll wheel when I’m not actively clicking anything–with my middle finger on the right button. Thumb and ring finger brace the mouse in movement, and the little finger is just…there.)

(I’m also one of those people who rests their pens/pencils against their ring finger when writing.)

edit–I was so caught up in trying to figure out how to describe how I hold a mouse that I accidentally linked to a search instead of an actual article–fixed that, sorry!

If you're writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn't include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I've internalized from TV and video games.
