I'm halfway through this book & I'm so creeped out but also intrigued. That girl is not her child, but an evil spirit. Something that imitates the spirit of her child to torment her. An entity that was birthed from Sethe's own trauma. This desire to torment Sethe also shines bright in her dynamic with Denver. Beloved & Denver's dynamic is very eerie; her true sister wouldn't treat her like this.

Also, her assaulting Paul D is another way she breaks down and destroys the people closest to Sethe, trying to eliminate any form of connection with people that will be in her corner.
