i don’t know if there’s people on here to talk about this with but i just finished these violent delights by micah nemerever and im reading so many thoughts and opinions. i just don’t understand why people, after the ending especially, still ship julian and paul? if you do can you please share your thoughts and reasons!!! i really am curious because after the last couple of chapters (or the last part as a whole) it 1. obviously made me fucking despise paul (as it should) 2. made me rethink a lot of julian’s actions and recognise how they are warped since we are seeing him through paul’s perspective and 3. made me unable to stomach the thought of them being together, especially for julian’s sake. it made me see their relationship dynamic through a completely new lens. i know theyre both sickly obsessed with each other and fucked up, but i feel throughout the book it became glaringly obvious that paul was abusing julian? there was such a power imbalance in their relationship and for all that paul claims to know julian inside out, the more i think about it it seems like paul had this really weird and detailed idea of julian in his head and he couldn’t see past it. i just can’t bring myself to even ship them at all. i want julian so far away from paul. and i want paul locked up. i hate him. the diary entries and his attempted murder genuinely make me sick to think about and it’s the main reason i can’t fathom shipping them.
i love julian so dearly. he was just a boy who wanted to love and be loved bro😭
i feel like this is a pretty brief and shallow interpretation but i only finished this book last night and i really want to hear other people’s thoughts!!!! if you disagree PLEASE debunk what i think i thought the book was amazing and i would love to understand more from people who have read and reread it. i wish i could talk to micah directly to understand more. such a masterpiece wow. i need to reread immediately and study it i think their relationship is one of the most complex and in depth ones ive ever read.
