Our current assignment began with an observation of our environment during our commute to/from the university. I chose to document the textures on my way to/from therapy sessions.

That got me thinking… A lot of my texture photographs document decay, but therapy is about healing… So why not try to “fix” some of the decay?

At first, I’d planned to use the same colour, but then I began to think about how surviving awful things can make us better people… Which made me think about kintsugi, and how there is no shame in survival… In fact, it is beautiful.

As I’m still in the process of healing, and will likely be so for the rest of my life, only a small part of the first painting in this series has been fixed, and only with copper. As the series progresses, the metals will change, and more will be healed.
