OK OK honestly if you know me you know i’m literally the most obsessed person ever with the roaring twenties and i wanna get ppl into this au bc i love this au and i love what i’ve seen so far but also i’m running in here with REFERENCES and TIPS and BRIEF HISTORY LESSONS because i’m a dweeb
HERE is my 1920s fashion ref board on pinterest! it’s an in-general fashion ref but like, mostly 1920s. i’m pretty sure i have more 1920s pins on my other boards (inspiration board, namely) but there u go... it might mostly be women’s fashion omg... i try my bestest
here’s some... extra things... bc honestly i love talking abt the 20s. this is mostly me being a geek and hoping 2 give an idea of what the 1920s would be like in a story settign,,,
flappers were just a small part of the population!! most women in fact were like, “what the heck are these girls DOING.... LIKE, ROLLING DOWN THEIR TIGHTS??? THEIR HAIR SHORT??? SCANDALOUS”
flapper fashion is a sort of an ode towards masculinity; especially talking about women in the US post WWI. WWI gave girls a lot of independence since men were off fighting in the war it was up to women on the homefront to take care of the Hard Jobs, which kind of propels the modern flapper, which rejects the natural curves ladies have and long hair and gets rid of it with the boxy silhouette and short bobs!
HWU-wise, it should be known that for most of the 1920s, films were silent! talkies didn’t really show up until the jazz singer (1927) (which we’re gonna pretend doesn’t exist for a minute because it’s horrifyingly racist) so yanno. silent film ur life up
SPEAKING OF WWI: the US was rly the only place w the culture boom because hey europe’s kinda trying to take care of the reprecussions of war
sliced bread was invented in the 20s. take this as u will
HATS!! CLOCHES!!! GIRLS LOVE CLOCHES!!! i think my board has refs of these hats. they’re good. also the cupid’s bow lip style! and kohl, which was kind of a push for a more exotic take towards makeup where women were trying to paint their eyes kind of egyptian, yanno? ya
ARCHITECTURE WISE: the 1920s is really when we started to reject the art noveau movement and move towards art deco AKA sleek, industrial, clean design. the shift is interesting. embellishment is for suckers
CRIME!!! organized crime didn’t really start popping up until the 1920s, what with the kidnapping of charles lindbergh’s son (sidenote: charles lindbergh was the first to fly solo across the atlantic--) and al capone and yadda yadda. the world was dangerous. prohibition was horrifying but also REALLY AWESOME. GOOD GOLLY WAS IT THE BEE’S KNEES OR WHAT
i’m gonna stop here,,, and calm down,,, i’m very excited,,, see u cats later and honestly if u have questions i got u....
