Where U At?

I’ve been a little quiet lately, so here’s the gentle “where I’ve been” update 🫠

Work has been… a lot. Like literally doing the job of two people a lot. And as a bonus, the building decided to become a disaster montage: part of the ceiling collapsed in one area so we had to evacuate, then a week later the sewage overflowed in another building (yes, really), and then once everything finally settled and I came back in (I worked over Christmas), the A/C in my office stopped working. Because of course it did.

On top of that, my PC’s PSU died, so I’m currently on laptop mode for around two weeks until it’s back, which means my usual TS4 workflow is a bit… limited. I’ve also had some general medical funsies going on in the background, so burnout has been doing a little tap dance on my nervous system.

I have been doing good things too though: I’ve started going back to PT sessions, I’ve been planning my Quebec trip (brain = itinerary), and I’ve been reading a lot. Comfort rewatches have also been happening (Heated Rivalry + Season 2 of Fallout).

Creatively I’m still here, just quieter. I’ve been writing more for myself lately, and I’ve been trying to make some CAS items but it’s taking ages (why does time move differently when you’re making CC?).

Also: I do have some pics to upload (mostly Inzoi + some Riker/Ryan ones), but it’ll be a bit limited until my PC is back. I’ll share what I can in the meantime, and then once I’m properly set up again… you know I’ll be back on my nonsense. 🫶

i don't know who needs this information but if you have an hp laptop or run windows 10, check if you have an app called OMEN Gaming Hub and delete it.

it's an OFFICIAL HP app and it acts like MALWARE, i'm being dead serious. it maxed out my RAM and CPU to 100% load and my entire pc was overheating because of it! when i opened task manage to figure out why my computer was tripping, the app was running a task called "HP.OMEN.OMENInstallMonitor" that had replicated tens and tens of times, and was running my pc to death.

sincerely, from a computer engineering major, delete the app! it has the ability to act like a virus without being brought to your attention because it's registered as safe by all of your malware scanners :)

(For some infernal reason, Pets REFUSES to install, it's stuck on Preparing/Download Error even after I cleared the EA App cache a zillion times, but every other EP & SP installed & loaded in-game just fine, so I guess this is just more of EA's glitched out effery, because ofc. 🙄)

Welp, that stream didn't last long.

I've been running into this issue over the past few weeks with OBS, where it sometimes crashes when I try to start it up or do anything more complicated than managing sources.

Now it's escalated to causing encoding errors during streams and crashing.

Every time it crashes, I have to reset my PC entirely, because nothing I do will make it actually properly reset in the same session. I can't even use Task Manager to shut it down entirely because it takes Task Manager down with it. So maybe this is some kind of memory problem or something to do with my GPU, but it's driving me insane. I'm really tired of this PC causing me issues especially where the GPU is concerned and I don't know what it's gonna take, but I need it to stop fucking with me 😭 Half the leads I find I can't even pursue because it often requires either re-installing Adrenalin (which bricks my PC), or having to access my BIOS which for some reason just doesn't work on startup anymore (like no amount of mashing F2 or Delete prompts it to come up).

So I'm effectively stuck until I can call my PC guy tomorrow and see if he has any solutions. In the meantime I'm gonna try installing a fresh reboot of OBS, rebuilding all my sources, etc. because it could very well be something within the program itself causing these problems. I don't know. I basically have to just keep grasping at straws until something catches.

So. Yeah. Wish me luck y'all. Very sorry to everyone who has to deal with all this shit on the viewing end of things, I'm gonna try and have it fixed as fast as possible <3

Computer / Gaming side of tumbler, Help??

so like.. I have this thing that happens on my computer when I try to play video games.. not every game does it, and it's not studio specific either,

idk how to explain it so here's some screenshots:

I don't have screenshots but, A Date With Death - by Two and a Half Studio also lagged this way, the background of Casper's room would lag like that

and another game all the backgrounds did this but I can't remember which it was and I don't have the time to go through all my games at 3:30 a.m. lol

all the games I have that do these were obtained through Itch. io and unzipped/extracted with WinRAR with "extract here" function

whether I run games as administrator or not does not change anything to this issue

the only issue my pc could have that I can think of is, I *am* running these on a 14 y/o graphics card (2010)

it's genuinely not a great graphics card, but it also can run games like Genshin Impact & Zenless Zone Zero with little to no problems

has anyone else ever encountered this issue? if so, did you manage to fix it/ how?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling games, it does not work

I know it's a minor issue, but it does often ruin my gaming experience on games I am certain I could genuinely love otherwise

I've looked online and either I just can't describe the issue well enough to find a solution, or just no one else has had this issue before, which I doubt lmao, I also looked in all the games' comment sections on itch. io and it doesn't seem like anyone else has these issues...

TL:DR: I thought my main work computer/gaming rig had died with an abrupt, inexplicable frankly STRANGE fault. Turned out it just couldn't cope with my Bose earbuds being plugged in to the USB port on my monitor during startup.

Guys, I thought I was going to have a really, very bad day. Went to turn on my computer to do some editing and it just, would not start. The fans lit up, but it wasn't even getting to the Bios, let alone loading Windows.

No Bios beeps to go "YO something's fucked". In fact, nothing diagnostically helpful at all. Peripherals, such as the keyboard, were incredibly sluggish/non-responsive. It was just weird.

Now and then it would get to the "To load Bios screen press DEL" but then it wouldn't react to anything. I tried turning it off and on again, repeatedly. Even my techy partner was scowling at it in confusion.

Both of us hesitantly figured maybe the motherboard had died, because most other things going tits up would at least let you get to the Bios, if not into Windows itself before some kind of screen of death incident. So motherboard seemed like a likely culprit.

I misjudged. I owe it an apology. It was not the motherboard.

So other than "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" a piece of advice that people think is bullshit is "unplug all the peripherals and try turning it on and see if it works."

Never again will I scoff at this advice.

I unplugged the peripherals (keyboard, mouse etc), including my Bose headphones, which were charging in the USB port hub that's built into my monitor.

My PC started just fine! (Insert shocked Pikachu face). Maybe it was a fluke? It was probably a fluke. Yet I was able to restart my PC multiple times with no weird fault.

Okay. Reconnected keyboard and mouse, no problem. So it's probably the USB hub inside my monitor that's busted. Tried a different device plugged into said hub during start up. Nope. Still worked fine.

Plugged in my Bose earbuds, then started up my machine. My PC went unresponsive again. It was on the road to nowhere. All because of these bastards.

On the one hand, I'm relieved, because this fix cost me nothing but a little bit of time. On hte other, I'm stunned, because WTF were the Bose headphones doing to stop my poor PC in its tracks like that?
