New PC acquired!!
My old PC is 8 years old. It was time for an upgrade.
I would say this counts as a big upgrade, considering the old one was running an i7-8700K, a 2070, and 16 GB of RAM - everything on Ultra settings, here I come. Gonna install my old HDD in the new one for an extra 2 TB of storage, too.
And all that for $2300 (most to all of which I won't be paying myself, because it's a gift!)
And special thanks to @fictionalafvsmybeloved for helping me with the search.
I found my family's old Dell Inspiron 530 desktop in my parents basement and I really want to try and turn it into a gaming pc.
My problem is I know no one who builds pcs and I'm too shy to ask reddit.
Has anyone on here turned an old desktop into a gaming pc? Here's some pictures to show what I'm working with.
I am SO fucking excited!
I finally upgraded my PC! I may have cut myself during the process, but its all done!
I upgraded my PC & am starting fresh!
I built my first PC in 2017, and the other day I basically rebuilt it!
CPU: intel i7 6700K -> Ryzen 7 7800X3D
GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X -> ASUS RTX 4070 Dual OC
RAM: 32GB DDR4 2400MHz -> 32GB DDR5 5200MHz
Storage: 250GB SSD + 1TB SSD + 3TB HDD -> 1TB M.2 SSD + 4TB M.2 SSD
What this means for my Sims 2:
While I still have all my old files on my old drives, I do not plan on copying anything over. This means, I am starting my Sims 2 Downloads folder over from scratch. So, I definitely won't be playing the game for quite some time. I am unsure if this is the end of my Veronaville - I left it in a really random spot and I was getting bored, but I am very attached to those sims so I may see if its playable with all my CC changed one day.
I can't promise I will maintain motivation and get back to the game quicky, but expect to see mod releases and videos along the way.
More info in the form of my 2024 Simming Goals coming soon.
I’m thinking of rebooting my pc, but then I thought instead of (or maybe on top of) rebooting my pc (which would clear a lot of the shit my younger self installed, but is a great excuse to switch to Firefox and stuff), I should see if I can improve my PC’s hardware. Then I realised I straight up don’t have an ssd? So I… should probably get one. And I’m meaning to get a second monitor anyway, so I might just do some tech shopping???
If anyone knows of any cheap ssds (I think m.2 is the open slot), monitors, and I guess graphics cards too, couldn’t hurt (I have a gtx 1060, like it’s alright but could be better), let me know (I am in the uk though bear in mind)
PC Upgrade Journey!
(the picture is my old/current one)
I've mentioned here before how I've wanted to upgrade my almost 4 years old pc to something nicer, but I'm very against changing stuff for luxury instead of replacing things that no longer work, and it lasted for 3,5 long years, fortunately. The funniest part is that the upgrade hype really kicked in because my power supply broke.
So as I'm very invested now in getting some things in better shape I thought it might be funny to document the changes and see the final result vs the start!
And here's a special thank you for my lovely commissioners who support me and make it possible for me to enhance my work tools/work space!! 💖
