Unpopular Opinion
I'm the only one who feels like Solo Niall is kinda shady. Like how is he nominated as a Breakout Artist when he only has one song out??? I know as fans we don't feel there's anything wrong with that, but I'm sure the general public is like 😒. I love him, but if he wins anything I'm gonna assume it was predetermined, therefore shady AF.
Vote Ian Somerhalder for Favorite Sci-Fi/ Fantasy TV Actor for People's Choice Awards 2017. https://goo.gl/4wu3cv
You can add her name and vote. Lana Parrilla is such a phenomenal actress she deserves a People's Choice Award!
I don't know what bothers me more; that Clarke and Bellamy were nominated for best chemistry or that no same sex couple were nominated for anything (Clexa, Malec). Like how, both couple fandoms would beat Blorke any day.
PCA 2016 & Other Life Stuff
A little personal update/relevant news:
I just recently got back from the National Pop Culture Association Conference in Seattle, and once again I return inspired and ready to tackle about a million projects.
I presented a paper on Orphan Black, which I will be expanding and hopefully publishing in an upcoming book on Ethics in Science Fiction. Meanwhile, I’m organizing a Jessica Jones panel/roundtable for next year’s conference in San Diego, which will include discussions on everything from the show’s adaptation from the comics, to its portrayal of sexual assault and trauma, and everything in between. I’ve already got most of the presenter slots filled, but if you have written on Jessica Jones and feel you could contribute a unique perspective to this discussion, feel free to message me, and I’ll see if we might be able to fit you in. I’m also working on getting a special guest from the show’s creative team to join us, but I don’t want to jinx it just yet by saying too much...I’ll keep you posted.
Oh, and if you’re in the Chicago area, the Midwest PCA conference will be happening October 6-9. It’s always a good time, with lots of interesting papers and discussions (but less overwhelming than the national conference). I’ll be presenting a paper on The Last of Us, so feel free to come check it out!
Other life stuff update: I’m moving to Chicago to do film work this week, so I might be a little less involved in this blog than usual for the next few crazy weeks, but I’ll do what I can! Not going on hiatus or anything, just gonna be a little more low-key for a while.
Take it easy, cuties.

Just some of my favorite panels from PCA 2016 (AKA Comic-Con for academics).
Favorite paper title: “Raise Your Hand if You Feel Personally Victimized by Shondaland”
so it looks like i stole 17 Sheraton pens, and I got a free one from the conference I was attending, so I just got 18 new pens and i’m feeling pretty good about things
