Application: The Mayor
[x]
How old are you IRL? 25
What character are you applying for? Mayor - Warren Vega
Why are you interested in this character? I've been big on the intermission fandom, cosplay the Mayor, and rped him a fair amount. Out of all the exiles he's my favorite because he is really invested in doing good, even if he isn't that great at it. And almost everybody canonically likes him, which is always a nice feeling.
What is your personal interpretation of this character? How would you describe their personality? He is convinced he is the actual Mayor of Portland. He reads the newspaper every day (and maybe nibbles on it a bit) to keep up with current events so he can talk to whoever will listen to him about politics or his plans for the city. His ideas are sometimes really good, but they don't get off the ground because he is not actually the mayor at all. He lives on the streets, occasionally offered a place to stay for a few nights by people who have become very familiar with him the rare times the weather is treacherous. He's a really friendly guy and cares a lot for his city, trying his best to keep it clean by cleaning up litter. He can be found a lot of the time in libraries reading, or just outside striking up conversation with strangers, some of whom sort of become his friends. Most people who bother giving him the time of day find him pleasant, just a bit delusional. Sometimes he'll make suggestions for things that have already happened, and takes great pride in himself when he finds out that his project was finished so quickly.
What would be your character’s major or occupation? It’s fine to be undecided, and you can change it later if you like! His job is fake, as he has never once held any real position in the political office. What he does for money is collect bottles and cans, returning them for the deposit. He says it's part of his duty to keep the city clean, and it's just a little bonus that he gets paid for it. Another of his self appointed duties is to verbally reprimand vandalists, sometimes chasing them until they leave whatever property they were damaging. Sometimes this gets him food from business owners, who appreciate his efforts at keeping their buildings free of graffiti or smashed windows.
Give a physical description of your character: He's a short man, about 5'5" with a dark tan. He usually wears ponchos that he made out of old discarded sheets or blankets, literally, just a head hole in a sheet. This is usually on top of clothing, which is whatever he can find that fits. The sheets are used to give him a more professional attire, at least in his opinion, giving him a uniform. One time he found a suit, but he keeps that safe and only wears it once a week or for special occasions. He usually has a rather cheerful demeanour unless he sees someone vandalizing or littering.
Give an example post of your character in this AU: He adjusted his sash so that everyone could read MAYOR on his torso. The sash was self made, had to keep costs down in these hard economic times and couldn't waste city money on these things. It was important to him that people knew who he was, that way if they had any problems, they could come tell him directly. Not many people did this, but he didn't want to risk anyone not knowing.
Today was a good day to serve his city. In fact every day was. He was even lucky enough to find half a sandwich just sitting on top of the trash that morning, which he ate without hesitation, and even a few bottles of not quite empty sodas, which he drank and tossed in his sack. He made his way to the library, eager to read a copy of today's paper to see if any of his legislations passed.
What a disappointment, no news on improving public transportation by removing the speed limits for buses. But he was happy to see a mention of himself in the crime section, "Two teens were caught by resident Mayor Vega, spray painting an obscene gesture on side of a Starbucks. The two were lectured about their misbehaviour and promptly apologized to the store's manager, but were still charged a fine to have the graffiti removed." He beamed with pride, at least he did his city well.
It seemed someone had the pleasure of meeting with him, at least someone sat down next to him. "Greetings citizen, in case you did not know, I am Mayor Vega. Feel free to give any insight of issues in the city I mayor may not know about yet." He chuckled at his own little joke, nobody else would ever hear the difference, but he knew what he said. "If it's about the potholes in this sector, please be aware that I have already placed an order for them to be filled post haste." The stranger just stared at him a bit before simply saying "Thanks for that," and continued their reading.
