Smart and Peach are gonna kill me, I can just tell. Because Smart is already in love and Peach is oblivious but next episode Peach is definitely going to be starting to figure it out right at the wrong moment and pull away which is just going to hurt Smart so much because he's definitely been in love forever and I am very worried that the title means we're going to end with them apart and questioning the "what ifs" of their relationship.
Oh, these babies. I am gonna be destroyed in the quietest way by this.
What If is just quintessential classical Thai BL coming of age BL and a well acted and written one will always destroy me. There's something about these stories, the slow burn, the mutual pining, the way there's gentle love that ends up hurting so much because neither party is talking.
You have Smart working hard to insure that he can catch up and join Peach at university and then Peach so excited to see him and the jealous girl (named Mind! Mind versus Smart! So similar to each other and yet so different) and then Smart, who's absolutely in love with Peach having a new boy flirt with him and Peach's jealousy and just... y'all, I am here for this.
I love them so much. All these boys in love with each other but unsure how to handle it and what to do.
I did love Peach's face in the preview when he saw someone else taking care of Smart. Oooo.
Peach, how about you think about why you rejected yourself from joining your long time friend and your best friend because Gun was nice enough to bring him food? How about we try some self reflection and not just avoid this poor boy who did nothing wrong and hurt him again and again? Smart doesn't deserve to be hurt just because you're realizing you want to be the only one taking care of him.
I love how much Smart's crush on Peach is obvious to Smile but everyone else is completely oblivious. Smile knows instantly but all these friends and Peach himself has absolutely no idea.
Smart just breaking my heart when he realizes Peach is heading to the dorms without telling him earlier and Peach being so gentle with him and all his friends knowing that he and Smart need a moment alone.
It's very obvious that all his friends care about both of them and have the same protective urges with Smart.
But this is definitely focused on that separation and growing up and changing how sometimes it's much, much harder for one side than the other.
Because Peach is going on to exciting new things while Smart is staying in the same place because of their one year difference.
This is also following that same idea from My Only 12% of one side being much more aware of their love than the other side. Smart is absolutely aware how much he cares about Peach while Peach seems rather oblivious to the deeper emotions his friend is holding onto for him.
And Smart realizing that his food has too many veggies in it because of years of Peach taking them for him? Smart is going to hurt in this show, honestly.
Because he's the one that got left behind, the one that's fighting to catch up but he's also the one who can't because there's an entire year between them and that makes such a difference sometimes, especially if both sides aren't on the same page about a relationship.
Peach is off at university running around with new people and new friends and a new life while Smart lives a life dedicated to joining him as soon as he can but without him.
Honestly, I love childhood crush to adult relationships. I really, really do. But they have to be done well. And What If is adorable. They're very cute friends who look at each other special and they've grown into adults who obviously care about each other deeply and differently than they do their other friends.
They're darling. And the habits of a lifetime as they eat together, the familiar way they roll their eyes at each other and wake each other up and smile is just darling. I love this already.
Especially Smart wearing a shirt that says Peach? Adorable.
