Day3: Trade / Depowered

I love Pearlnet and I love Don‘t Starve so why not both? 

I even wrote a fan-fic which Garnet and Pearl accidentally crossed to this world where their gems no longer provided energy to maintain their existence.

I still love this AU, at the same time I think today ‘s theme perfectly match to it.

Somewhere Old, Somewhere New

Pearl and Garnet fin a familiar place in a new spot. 

"Garnet!"  Pearl called wriggling her way through the thick bushes that seemed to pack every free inch of the forest floor that wasn't the domain of what Pearl had to admit were tall and impressive trees.  She took a step into a patch of open ground only to be stopped short.  Looking back, her eyes narrowed in a glare at the bush that had snagged her bow, pulling it lopsided.  With a growl, she yanked the tail of the bow free and took a minute to straighten it, unsatisfactorily.  "Ahhh!  Garnet where are you?"  

"Over here, Pearl." Garnet's voice called out from behind more thick concealing bushes, and Pearl's face fell.  By the sound of Garnet's voice, Pearl could tell that she was facing away from her on the other side of the bushes, and that meant that she probably had no intention of coming to Pearl.  

With a sigh, Pearl pushed through the thick foliage to see Garnet standing at the base of a steep hill.  She stood as still as the stones she was, her chin held between thumb and finger as she stared down at the ground.  Pearl pulled herself from the bush, carefully checking to see if she had snagged anything on another malicious branch.  She sighed and moved up next to Garnet, "I'll never understand your fascination with, how does Steven put it, 'the great outdoors.'  Didn't humans create doors to keep things they didn't want out."  

"I think this place looks pretty familiar," Garnet replied, not bothering to address Pearl's frustrated question.  She didn't even look up from where she was staring so intently.

Pearl frowned at that, but didn't press the complaint and focused her attention on the spot Garnet was staring.  It looked as mundanely the same and yet ever chaotically different as any other part of the Earth.  The problems with Steven after his return from space and Pearl's recent run-in with the Earth's less than friendly inhabitants had soured her to the natural world.  Her mindset had turned back to her old ways, favoring the structure and organization of gem society to the wild chaos of the Earth that Rose and Garnet loved so much.  "I don't see anything familiar about this place.  I'm sure we haven't been here before, and you know what an excellent memory I have."

"Then you should remember this."  Garnet smiled as she flicked away her vizor and, turning to face Pearl, fell onto her butt.  She sat sprawled out holding herself up with one arm while the other was lifted in front of her defensively.  Pearl guessed that Garnet was trying to look scared, but the faint smirk on her lips and the way her three eyes sparkled with joy ruined the effect.  "This is where we first met."

Pearl wanted to be annoyed with Garnet's silliness, but a smile cracked her lips ruining any seriousness she might have brought to her words.  That didn't stop Pearl from trying, "First off, Garnet, when I found you it certainly wasn't on this continent.  And second, the first place we met was on the sky arena."  Pearl paced back and forth as she spoke, her smile growing as the memories played in her mind.  Then the smile fell away to an annoyed frown.  "I can't believe Steven and Amethyst wrecked it so badly,  ooooo, that was my favorite spot in all the Earth."  

"That is why you love that place," Garnet shifted into a cross-legged sitting position.  "But I always thought of that place as where you met Ruby and Sapphire.  I didn't really feel like me then, not until I was trying to walk across the wonderfully uneven ground of the Earth.  Then I fell, and the first person I saw was the 'Terrifying Renegade Pearl.'"  Garnet grinned up at Pearl, who blushed and looked away, but started grinning with absolute delight.  "Under my fears, I thought, 'she's like me, this pearl is someone she's not supposed to be.'  You had all the grace of Sapphire and all the combat prowess that a ruby desired.  I didn't even know what I was, but I idolized you, and it wasn't long before that idolization became something more."  

Garnet ran her hand over the grass, "The place we met is gone forever, and yet the Earth has unexpectedly given it back to us.  That is why I love the Earth."

"It's not exactly the same," Pearl's smile remained, maybe a little more playful now, but she couldn't help but want to challenge Garnet.  She turned and pointed to some unimportant piece of shrubbery.  "That bush should be two feet to the-ahhh!"

Garnet cut Pearl off by grabbing her wrist and with a strong but gentle tug, pulled the lanky gem into her lap.   Garnet cradled Pearl in her arms and smiled down at her, "I like the differences, I think I'll make a few more changes to what happened that day."  

Garnet leaned down and ran her soft lips across Pearl's teasing her for a moment as Pearl's arms ran up Garnet's back and around the back of her neck.  They squeezed each other tightly pressing their lips together in a long deep kiss.  Pearl melted into Garnet's strong arms thinking; maybe the great outdoors weren't so bad.

(pearl is not going to drink the champagne. i mean, she has a point — of having no digestive system in her body.) OHHH damn i actually did it (maybe i didn’t, tho, i managed to shut down my DESKTOP accidentally while i was drawing it, my tablet drivers broke down so i had to google firework pics and paste it liKE th a t. also i have a headache now.) (i hope it’s already 16th of july in whatever time zones you guys live in) this is an artwork for pearlnet week day 1! new year’s my favourite holiday, so i had to draw them that way (that’s their maximum capacity looks! yes, i forgot to draw the diamonds (i just didn’t really want to.) on pearl’s sweater) not to mention that this is my first time drawing something like this without lining and it was really fun and hard to try!  (why are my posts longer than my fics.....)

Garnet: I lost pearl.

Amethyst: Ok?

Garnet: Please tell me you've seen her I've been looking for hours.

Amethyst: Nope not since this morning.

Garnet: *sigh* I need her help on a mission it's important.

Amethyst: By mission you mean date.

Garnet: .....I'm goning to go look in her room again.

Garnet turns around revealing a Tiny hamster Pearl clinging to back of her head. She appears to be asleep she looks happy. Garnet walks into Pearl's room muttering.

Amethyst: They'll be fine.
