My big PECS book finally arrived! I have space for all my cards now!

I added the three cards at the back to make statements quickly. "I need" is particularly important if I'm escalating towards a meltdown and can't string together a coherent sentence. All I have to do is pick the card for the thing I need, without having to fumble around and find the "I need" card first.

Miss R signed me up for special Olympics swimming. It starts in March, but I'm doing adaptive recreational swimming until then. My book will come in handy there, because electronic talkers don't like water!

Pecs book update post! This is not the final layout because still don't have all the deviders, but this is the layout that works for now.

DIY PECS binder!!

Transcript: I do good stay calm not get frustrated when try different thing in swimming.

I get mad at myself easily when I don't get something right the first time. Last week I had a meltdown because I messed up learning a turn and got water up my nose. This week I tried a new take-off from the wall and kept messing it up, but stayed calm and didn't get upset about it. I can make mistakes and learn hard things!

Ta da! My secret communication project is finished! I spent hours upon hours making 530 1"×1" PECS cards for my new PECS book from scratch!

I had to design, print, cut, laminate, re-cut, and add Velcro to every card, one at a time. I need to get new scissors because my current ones got so blunt!

I originally got the small size PECS book, but it became immediately obvious that I need the large one. So I got it in red. It should be here in about a week.

I got the book from the Pyramid Education Consultants website (not sponsored!) I had originally bought a regular binder to construct my own book, because the official books are extortionately expensive, but after I got started tackling the 500+ cards, I didn't have the energy to then build the book as well!

My plan is to use the PECS book at times when my talker is too heavy and unwieldy, like when I go for walks, or on all day outings to the museum or zoo.

I'm very pleased with how the cards came out!

Kiku had a fibro flare, really bad. Hurt so much. Couldn't settle to sleep. And was able tell wifey/carer what wrong and get help using pecs book. High tech ac sometime too complicated during bad baad pain, but pecs book not as complicated and it tactile and help ground. Still not feel good and still hurt some but no as bad. Fibro awful 😖 Kiku love pecs book. Very happy have it. Kiku try go sleep now. Very tired. Kiku do pecs book update post again tomorrow.

Forgot update cool that I ended up while ago getting official PECS books in BOTH small and large sizes! Yippee!!!

Note: I I use PECS book as good communication book backup/alternitive to my high tech AAC, not as PECS official learning system wich is not very good thing ive ben told!

I mosty use Small one thogh (you can tell by bag of hundred plus extra symbols cards I have next to it in picture and that it have a prety rainbow stars strap on it to carry it!) but both are prety purple and I got the official PECS rainbow inserts for both but diffrence is I got two sets for small book and one set for big but on big book we put Velcro on both sides the inserts! And self/staff make cards for Small book but big book it use cards from PECS official PECS 151 cards set!

I might end up selling Large PECS book sometime sinse I not use so much but idk if anyone willing to pay around 60 dollars (50 for EVEYTHING (all pages, accessories and cards and stuff) plus like 10 shipping) that is just about 1/3 cost I pay for it all when boght it my friend help me calculate.

PECS transcript: "I do bad thing hurt me because overwhelmed."

I had another meltdown tonight and banged banged banged my wrists into the wood floor. I was upset because Miss R didn't want to talk about something I really needed to talk about. When I was calm, she hugged me and said she wasn't mad. I still feel shame every time I have a meltdown though.
