mormonism is low key a cult. i left when i was 16. they teach children in their formative years that
• non-members are going to hell. they “seal” married dead couples and “baptize” dead people without, obviously, the deceaseds’ consent.
•sex is a sin outside of marriage and if you break that rule, you have to discuss it with your bishop to repent. they literally set children up for grooming n unsafe environments and then cover for their male members when they invariably use this to molest kids.
•people with dark skin were “marked” by god for abel’s murder of his brother, and it means they are from an evil heritage. no, i’m not making this up.
•gay people can’t have a “real” family and so they can’t get to heaven or be married. when i asked why infertile people can get married, i got kicked out of seminary.
•they actively DISCOURAGE members from asking questions. they excommunicated a man for setting up a website discussing indiscrepancies, seriously looking for guidance and answers. look it up.
•they say nobody can talk to god but the prophet, but also say your relationship w god is personal and needs constant work
•divorce is heavily discouraged and divorced people face osterezation (idk how to spell it sorry) within the community.
•they’re not supposed to speak to nonmembers unless they’re converting them.
this list goes on and on, but the religion is horrible and my state’s culture is heavily based on their views. i’ve been called slurs in the street for being visibly gay and almost ALL of the white people i went to high school said the n word. ask me again why i hate the cult and all they stand for. don’t let them play innocent. members who say “that’s not what they actually believe” are LYING or denying the teachings of their church. ✨
so yes, calling out smeyer on her shitty takes does relate to the mormon church.
