it's kinda canon in the books that when bella and edward cuddle, a lot of the time it's him resting his head on her chest to listen to her heartbeat. i didn't really care about this detail before, but these days i've been thinking about how cute that is. i imagine that on rainy afternoons they chill together in her room, each of them reading a book - edward lying on his side, his left ear over bella's heart, feet dangling over the edge of the bed. her pulse is so strong in his ears that he feels like it's his own. it's a pleasant thing to feel. bella's on her back, cross-legged, holding her book right above herself with one hand and stroking edward's hair with the other, stopping only to turn the page every couple of minutes. edward repeatedly asks if she's even comfortable and she lies that she is. admittedly, her arm is straining but she enjoys feeling the weight of him, listening to his breathing, and he seems so serene right now. why ruin the moment because of a tiny bit of discomfort? the current chapter ended on a cliffhanger on top of that. she can't just stop reading right now.

at one point she gives up and props her paperback on edward's head. it makes him grin.

Something that has always bugged me (among many things) about the Twilight narrative: the whole Cullens-go-to-high-school-ad-nauseam-while-not-remotely-blending-in bit is preposterous as hell to begin with, but the case of Jasper makes no sense at all.

He goes to school with the others (with Alice and Edward worrying after him constantly, admittedly) where he is around bleeding students all the time: nosebleeds, paper cuts, scraped knees, menstruation (which SM once sorta horrifically wrote off as “dead blood” or something out of pocket like that) yet he isn’t ripping teens to shreds.

Now, Bella gets a paper cut at her cursed birthday party and Jasper goes full South-will-rise-again confederate feral with bloodlust. I have never been able to square these two factors together. Maybe I should be suspending my disbelief more but that feels like lowering my logical standards too much. Either Jasper is so unstable in the “vegetarian” lifestyle that he has no business ever going to school, or the birthday episode is curiously incongruous with the prevailing narrative.

This is relevant because I’m writing Beau’s birthday scene at the Cullens’ in my Life and Death fic and girl we are making changes. I haven’t quite decided what Jessamine (whom I view more sympathetically than Jasper, sorry not sorry) will do yet, but it won’t be the same.

I'm not solely referring to the fact that Edward constantly wonders what Bella is thinking.

I love when he guesses incorrectly about what she's thinking. Like, holy-fucking-airball wrong. And most of the time we know he'll never find out how wrong he was, but we know, because we got to read Twilight. And it's cute that he gets better at guessing as he gets to know her better!

Also some of my favorite bits of Midnight Sun were the revelations that when Edward came off as an asshole for laughing at Bella in Twilight, it turns out most of the time he's just launched into a fit of laughter to cope with the absurdity of his own life; his options as he sees them are 1. laugh or 2. throw himself in a volcano about it. So he laughs

okay one more: Edward is watching Bella sleep, hoping she'll say his name when she's sleep-talking. Instead she says "Jacob." He spends the entire night having an internal crisis about how this is probably their last night together, he needs to cherish it bc surely she is in love with Jacob Black and will tell Edward she's leaving him tomorrow. and then the next day she's like "oh I had a dream about that movie Water for Elephants. That main guy in the movie is so cute..."

You can’t just say “okay last one” and then make Robert Pattinson canon in the Twilight universe. What the fuck. Get back here
