Javier Peña x Female Reader
Synopsis: Javier Peña is dating female reader. Reader thinks he has a boring job but he works DEA.
A/N: Forgive me, I'm not used to writing acting packed scenes!
Javier Peña works a tactical job as a DEA agent. Long, endless days of hunting a man that didn’t want to be found. Back in the day, he used to enjoy the thrill of the chase, but now he just wants to get home to his lovely girlfriend.
He met Y/N six months ago by accident. Javier had been on a look out with Murphy when he saw Y/N walking on a side walk. Instantly he was smitten with the way her hair fell and the way the sun reflected in her eyes. And the way she tripped and started cursing at the sidewalk. Javier immediately got out of the car to help her up and checked for injuries.
The two made eye contact and Javier knew it was an instant connection. He gave her his number so she could confirm she’s feeling okay. Slowly they started hanging out which turned into dating.
The only problem? She doesn’t know he’s DEA. He told himself it’s for her safety. And it’s true for the most part. But he knows it’s bad keeping secrets from his baby girl.
To her, he works a boring office job and supplies boring details. He even roped Steve and Connie into going on a double date with them to solidify some details. God bless Y/N’s innocence.
Back to present day, Javier and Steve sit in a car. Javier has a cigarette in his mouth as he watches a group of Escobar’s men gather. He exhales a bunch of smoke. Steve looks outside the other window. "They're moving," Steve mutters, his body going rigid as two of the cartel men head toward the heavy metal doors of the warehouse.
Javier doesn’t say a word. He just takes one last, deep drag of his cigarette, the embers glowing bright orange in the dimming afternoon light, before flicking the butt out the window. He reaches down, checking the weight of his gun in its holster. Six months ago, his heart would have been hammering with pure adrenaline, the thrill of a raid consuming his entire mind. Now? His chest just feels heavy. He looks down at his watch—it's nearly 6:00 PM. She’s probably already home, he thinks. Probably sitting on the couch, waiting for her boring office boyfriend to walk through the door.
They sneak out the car, leaving the doors open, the crouch as they walk towards the gathering. Steve steps on a stick and everyone looks at them. “Shit.” They pull up their guns and start shooting. Both sides were shooting at each other hoping to win.
A stray bullet hits Javier in the arm and blood trickles down. Steve covers him as he rips part of his shirt to tie around the wound. Once back in the game, he fights back harder than ever. He aims his gun at Blackie (A/N I’m pretty sure that’s a name in the show). The bullet enters his chest and the men cease fire. One of the men checks on his wound and realizes he’s bleeding out. The men evacuate leaving Javier and Steve dumbfounded.
They reconvene back at the DEA’s office to talk about next steps. Steve was pacing the floor, waving his hands as he debriefed the rest of the team about how Blackie's men had cleared out. Javier barely heard a word of it. He sat heavily on the edge of a desk, his jaw tightly clenched as a medic finally cut away the ruined sleeve of his signature shirt to inspect the graze. The bullet had torn a nasty line through his bicep, but it was clean.
"You got lucky, Peña," the medic muttered, wiping away the dark blood and starting to wrap it in clean, white gauze. "A few inches to the left and it would've shattered the bone." Steve stops in his tracks. “What is Y/N gonna think when her boyfriend who’s job is supposed to be boring, comes back with a gunshot wound?” Everyone is quiet. “It might be time to tell her the truth, Javi.”
On the drive home, he debates on telling her the truth again. It might be time to tell her the truth, Javi. He had pulled an oversized, dark jacket over his shirt to hide the bulky white gauze, but he wasn’t stupid. He couldn't wear a heavy jacket inside their warm apartment forever. Eventually, he’d have to take it off. Eventually, she would see the ruined fabric, the blooming stain, or the bandage. What was he supposed to say? That he tripped on the sidewalk again? That a rogue stapler had taken a piece out of his arm? The absurdity of the lies he was spinning tasted like ash in his mouth.
Pulling up into the driveway, he imagines her smile when she sees he brought Chinese food for dinner. He parks and grabs the food and walks inside the apartment. Javier opens the door to see Y/N there wearing his favorite dress and his favorite movie queued up on the tv. “Babygirl what is all this?” Y/N blushed. “I missed my man so I decided we should have date night.” She puts her arms over his shoulder and pecks his lip.
”You look so handsome in your jacket.” she says. A smirk appears on his face. “Good I don’t plan on taking it off just yet. They set up a little picnic blanket on the floor and set the food out. Y/N plays the movie and leans her head on his shoulder. One day Mi Amor. One day.
