IND-2020/09 : It’s morning. It’s news time. And it’s the Daily Newspaper (the name of the newspaper in Hindi reads, “Prabhat Khabar” i.e. ‘Morning News’) In the age of smartphones, smart TVs, 24x7 online world ; as well as Alexa, Siri, and ‘Hey Google’…we are flooded with instant news from all over the world. In midst of all of these streaming services, the old fashioned daily newspaper stills holds on to its charm. The ‘fresh of the printing press’ feel and smell…has its own appeal ! ND-2020/16: *The look says it All* Kolkata, India . Shot at a Sunday street side pet market. Not too many words needed to describe this image, I would imagine. At the same time, you might feel disturbed looking at this image, more so if you love dogs, like me (we have two at home). The only thing I can say, people in Kolkata, rather in India at large, love their pets. I have seen this across different sections of the society. Looking at an adorable Pug in a small cage can be heartbreaking, I can understand, and since this market has no permanent structure, this is what the sellers typically do, during the duration of the market hours, on a Sunday morning. Wish I had the power to change this practice towards a more humane way! Rather, as a visual storyteller, I’m trying to highlight this with the hope of helping to build social awareness towards this practice.
