We will inform you as soon as the supported releases become available, however if you are running Pegasus applications please do not attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 until further notice.

With any new Operating System we would strongly recommend you check for compatibility with your existing software before upgrading – please always speak to your relevant support team if you are not sure. 10 tips to boost cash flow and profitability with Pegasus Credit Management

Cash flow – the ability to generate enough cash at the right time to meet liabilities - is one of the most common inhibitors of business growth and a key reason for insolvency, affecting profitable and unprofitable companies alike.

If you look at a typical manufacturer as an example, it is easy to see how setbacks in cash flow can occur. The manufacturer might buy raw materials on credit before manufacturing the goods before they become stock. These goods are then sold on credit which depending on the payment terms, might be anything from 14 days to three months. During this time, they must pay for overheads and wage bills. If customers pay on time then this cycle is very efficient. Unfortunately in the real world, creditors can be slow to pay and when delays occur, the cycle breaks down.

As we move into a phase of economic growth, the ability to accurately anticipate cash flow has never been more important. Although you cannot always control when customers pay, the good news is that through instilling greater rigour and diligence across the order cycle, a huge step change can be achieved. Here are our 10 tips for improved cash flow: 1. Where possible capitalise on financing options such as loans to help mitigate against the impact of cash flow volatility. 2. Run regular credit checks on your customers. Circumstances can change quickly, so ideally this should take place every six months. 3. Ensure you know the history of your largest customers. For example if directors have a history of bankruptcy, a degree of caution may be necessary. 4. Be bold. If a customer regularly defaults on payment terms, are they worth the resources it takes to service them and chase down payments? It might seem counterproductive to turn away business but could positively impact the bottom line. 5. Consider your credit terms and consider introducing 14 day payments or small deposits for the largest customers. Look into offering a small discount for early payment. 6. Invest in a robust Financials software which generates invoices automatically and in a timely manner, provides alerts when payments become overdue, and facilitates immediate action to recover debts. 7. Ensure you have a clear credit control policy in place and create standard letter templates to recover late payments. 8. When chasing payment, always act appropriately. Be firm, polite and diplomatic. 9. Monitor your cash flow closely and in real time. Dashboard applications will give you a clear picture and in an easy to understand format, helping you prepare for things going wrong. 10. Review cash flow processes and resources on a regular basis and set realistic targets to ensure continued improvement.

The nature of business means that certain events will always fall outside of your control. However through adhering to the above suggestions, you will substantially improve your cash flow, reduce risk, and be well positioned to capitalise on business growth as the upturn continues to gather pace.

Auto Enrolment Pensions: What you need to know when using Pegasus Opera 3 Payroll.

Do I need a special Version of Opera 3 Payroll?

Whilst it is always the recommendation to stay within a minimum of 2 versions of the latest release of Pegasus Opera 3, there is no need to upgrade your software for Auto Enrolment. The Pegasus Opera 3 software has been compliant since 2012 and you will notice in the utilities menu and in the set options screen that there are options awaiting activation.

When can I switch these options on?

These options must not be activated within your Pegasus Opera 3 payroll until you have reached your “staging date”. This is a date provided by HMRC to determine when you must begin Auto Enrolling your staff. The “Staging Date” is determined by the amount of employees listed under your PAYE reference number.

I plan to defer my start date so do I need to do anything?

Each employer has the right to defer their “Staging Date” for up to three months. However the scheme must be setup and ready to go on your “Staging Date” as the employee has a right to demand that you auto-enrol them immediately into the scheme. You are not allowed to deny them this right, therefore Opera must be ready to accept them.

Can I just get my employees to Opt Out?

No. You must in no way encourage, assist or by way of threat force employees to opt-out of auto-enrolment. You must provide notification to the employee that they are being auto enrolled and then direct them to either your chosen pension provider or the NEST in order to arrange an Opt Out certificate to be removed from the scheme. If they are removed without this notification the employer will be seen as making an incorrect assessment of the employee status and will be fined accordingly.

I have chosen my provider but they want information every week from me – will Pegasus provide this?

Pegasus Opera 3 will handle all of the Auto enrolment calculations and deductions for the employees based on their chosen AE status. Your chosen pension provider will require notification of all employee details, either  weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on your pay frequency. Each provider will have a different format requirement and Pegasus Opera 3 currently only has provision for the NEST pension solution. Intsys have also developed a format for The Peoples Pension, a similar organisation to NEST but you will need to confirm well in advance what the requirement is as it may require an element of bespoke modification to provide an automated solution.

Will Pegasus handle the assessment of my workforce?

Auto Enrolment rules offer two main classes that an employee can fall into – Eligible Job Holders and Non Eligible Job Holders. These are loosely defined by Age and expected Salary and whilst Pegasus Opera 3 will make an assessment it will be up to you as an individual to decide which category an employee falls into. Your chosen pension provider may offer chargeable services to assist with validation of employee status.

Can I get some practical training and advice?
