If you’re interested in the context: They’re in Camelot because the Apprentice told them that Merlin (who is supposed to be in Camelot) was the guy who bound the Darkness to a human soul. So presumably, he’d be the one who could “unbind” it from that soul again. In short, they went there to de-dark Emma.
Of course, when they showed up, Camelot was a mess and Merlin was a tree, so things weren’t quite that easy. But the initial reasoning was sound.
No, they didn’t make the connection to Rumbelle with that plot. Which does seem a bit ridiculous, really. It’s basically 4A all over again, only Guinevere got to realise what was going on. Rumbelle just spend a whole bunch of time on externally or internally imposed time-outs, and I won’t lie, it’s getting frustrating.
As for your idea with the loves of former Dark Ones... you know, I would commit grievous bodily harm to see Emma talk to Belle in Camelot. Y’know. With the phantom Rumple hanging around in the periphery. That would be fascinating and I want it, but it doesn’t seem like the show is going to do me the favour.
I’ll get back to you on the point of the arc once it’s over. Currently, it seems like a pretty straightforward “why Emma turned evil” plot.
