Pelage (noun) – the coat of a mammal

Mammals have a variety of pelages, or coats, made of fur, hair, or wool. Pelages can be different colors to provide camouflage. As anyone with a pet cat or dog can relate to, mammals can have dense coats in winter for insulation but shed fur in summer for a cooler pelage. Can you identify these Mount Rainier mammals from their pelage alone?

Pine Marten by Chas Moonie-Wild Photography Pine Marten : finally got the shot I wanted in better light 1/2000 f4 iso 3200 . Previously I used manual focus and hoped she would get in the focus DOF plane which is about 10" at 4.7 metres @ 125mm , as I wasn't sure the R5 would nail her mid air from such a short distance and at such a speed when jumping ( they are fast when they want to be ! ) This time I let the camera focus @ 20fps and the R5 nailed her perfectly mid air , every detail pin sharp right down to the last whisker. Took a chance as I would only get one visit after possibly waiting several hours and the action would only last about 1/4 of a second . As it turned out she appeared after only 2 hours , but blink and you miss the action ! No tripod this time either which probably helped .
