Such beautiful animals—and some of my favorite pelagics that I’ve encountered yet. Contrary to what most people assume, this was not an adrenaline-filled experience. I felt so much peace and appreciation for these animals, the ocean, and this planet. It was completely awe-inspiring to share the ocean with them; to be in THEIR home, and to witness their natural behaviors whilst breaking down all of the harmful myths out there about their danger to humans. "I was snorkeling with these two humpback whales in Roca Partida. The mother remained at 40-50ft while the calf played around, up and down. Then, while the calf was swimming towards the surface she suddenly sped up and jumped out of the water. I thought she was going to land right on top of me so I just closed my eyes, swam away and took as many photos as I could. The Kajikia Audax (AKA striped marlin, stripey, striper, spearfish or spikefish) are strong, fast and very agile carnivorous fish. They hunt during the day in the top 100 meters, often near the surface. Witnessing this event is a privilege. We got the chance to document this spectacle in November 2016 and once again last month. Whale sharks can live up to 100 years. Their only known predator: humans. We are working with local fishermen and communities so that more people understand that all sharks are worth more alive than dead.
