i know sharks are not everyone’s favorite. BUT BUT BUT,
but ultimately not harmful unless provoked, or like, if you’re a fish. BUT, that doesn’t make them a bad creature! sure, they’re not so easy on the eyes. and can be like rAHHHHHHH! but in the end they’re just super awesome animals. and they need more attention and protection.
too many sharks get killed for their fins only. and for people to just to show off and say, “wow, look mom! i caught a shark.” it’s terrible. sharks aren’t just a trophy that you can post a picture of on facebook, and get a comment from your grandma telling you that it’s a “good catch”. they're living creatures that do more than just kill things.
there’s a 1/3,700,000 chance of someone getting killed by a shark. it’s more likely to die from an asteroid hitting you.. i mean seriously, c’mon! people make out sharks to be scary and horrible creatures that lurk at the cold, dark depths of the ocean and just kill. in movies like jaws, the reef and open water, sharks are portrayed as killers. and that’s it. never just swimming and having a peaceful day in the reef.
and due to the mindless killing, and poaching of these animals, it’s causing much more harm than good. not only in the coral reefs. but also in our economy, the loss of sharks can cause fishery’s to close, which will cost people to lose a ton of money. and even the complete extinction of some species. as sharks help control the food chain, and help moderate what's below them. taking them out of the ecosystem can result in higher rates of predatory fish, which will feed on herbivores. and with less of them, can really put a wet paper-towel on coral reefs, and how they grow.
so to conclude this, sharks are much more important than what movies, the media, and fishermen make them out to be. yes, they can be scary and killers. however they aren’t just killers, and help more than people give them credit for. i can go on, and on about how sharks deserve more than just a horror film. but i’ll end it here.
