my favorite scene in the whole show
This scene right here sums up why Pelswick is such a great show.
For the context- Pelswick was banned from going on a school camping trip out of fear for his safety because he's in a wheelchair. This eventually led to the camping trip to be cancelled altogether which made all the kids start protesting against him, and then other groups started protesting for him to go on the camping trip, but mainly consisted of a non-disabled lawyer attempting to speak over him whenever he tried to speak for himself (Pelswick didn't even want to go on the camping trip that badly- he wanted to be with his friends, but didn't want the trip cancelled because of him).
The entire commentary of people trying to speak over the groups they're trying to "speak for", in this case people with disabilities, and treating them like charity cases instead of, you know, human beings, is still just as relevant today as it was in 2000. And it also helps that Pelswick himself is a great character- he's a normal kid who's just trying to navigate being a teenager. He's not "inspirational" or a "wheelchair woobie". He's just an average teenage boy who happens to use a wheelchair, and when issues do come up regarding his disability, it's never him being disabled itself- it's how people treat him because of it.
