Still working on "Deviancy". In a very rare moment, here's the work-in-progress cover, which looks very similar to the original cover I did. I can't get over the fact that the invert color of cool black is a yellowish off-white. But I'm pretty sure once I get the dark background color on, it will look less weird.
Was originally gonna go with yellow strings, but I'm gonna switch to neon green since there's way too much yellow.
For those of you who have been following this blog for some time, you already know my plans to retcon the “Deviancy” chapter (aka, the Nib!Mettaton vs ErrorTale!Mettaton chapter).
I’m still working on the thumbnails for the pages, but I have a rough sketch of the cover done. It’s actually very similar to the original cover I did, but I went a little crazy with the finger strings this time around.
Okay, maybe a whole lot crazy. XD
Speaking of finger strings... what color do you think ErrorTale!Mettaton’s strings would be? Default Blue, Green (inverse color of pink), or something else entirely?
Reference sheet and dry run draw test for next upcoming comic, wherein Nib enters @swingtale (made by @ghostofpokeninjager).
One of the stipulations for entering SwingTale was that visitors would end up having pie-cut eyes (like you see in the 1920s cartoons) and that everything would be monochrome.
I do my comic in black-and-white monochrome, but more in a manga/comic style. So sepia-monochrome would be a bit of an interesting art challenge to tackle. I had a jar of faux walnut ink and did some testing with that using a dip pen, in combination with colored pencils and markers. I think it looks okay, but I found that doing the line art in dip pen was an unnecessary time sink, so I’ll need to invest in some brown fine liners. I also need to figure out how to get a greyish brown for Undyne’s skin color, but that’s more of a color-mixing problem that I can tackle later.
I ended up giving Nib a different outfit here. His default outfit actually did fit the 1920s era, but that of the Victorian Era and not the Swing Era. I couldn't have Nib step into SwingTale looking like he just came from Downton Abbey, so I took off his tailcoat and gave him long pants and Swing Era shoes. Ended up playing with the shoe styles of the SwingTale characters also for fun (because, why not?).
Nor sure if Pennie and Reed will also make an appearance, but tossed them in just in case my story draft will include them.
Nothing too special, this is just proof I am still working on the "Deviancy" comic, albeit very, very slowly due to life circumstances.
And, yes that is Dogaressa and Lesser Dog in the last panel. For those who are not familiar with the original version of "Deviancy", the doggie guards were originally cut out. I was able to add them back in for the retcon.
