Very honoured to have had an article about my old band tRANSELEMENt written over on the new music blog Bloop. It would never have happened if I hadn't met @mark_tattersall and @karlreden though. 😍 http://www.bloopmag.co.uk/interview-transelement/ #rennaissance #revival #te #transelement #element #newmusic #nostalgia #punk #manchester #undiscovered #johnpeel #peelfaves #radio1 #bbc #creepingbent #sovietunionrecords #elirecords #pendletones #weirdmusic #90sbands
Before they were famous, and before they were even called the Beach Boys, they called themselves The Pendletones after the ubiquitous wool plaid board shirt that surfers in their hometown wore to keep warm after coming out of the ocean.
In the early 1960s, a group called The Pendletones adopted their name in honor of the surf uniform of the day: Pendleton shirts worn over tee shirts with khakis. The original lineup included brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine.
But of course, the record company had something to say about it...
The Pendletones became The Beach Boys
I love em either way.
The surf uniform... Pendleton shirt. Khakis. White Tee. And don't forget the board.
Summer's almost here! There's still time to plan your beach wardrobe.
