Wayne is an orphan living in Japan in love with his best friend Ren. Both are young men still in high school but they are opposites one is the popular student and consummate academic, the other is the lost soul. The manga tells the story of them, their relationship and how it impacts them. Since Japanese culture views homosexuality in a highly unfavourable manner you can see this isn't going to be cheery. Ren and Wayne are sweet characters, they are so different and endearing and the ending broke me.

This manga is so short but that's not a bad thing, this has the authors heart in it. It's visually stunning. Penguin has a gorgeous style, they make it very easy to tell which character is talking. It's a manga dealing with first love, homophobia and cultural clash. It's a little sad, a lot realistic and deeply beautiful.
