"I'm so sorry I let this happen to you."
Crimson liquid pooled around her pale, weakening body, her heavy eyes fighting to stay open as she took quick, shallow breaths. She was losing blood too fast to stand a chance at surviving; she knew this was it for her. And as she watched him w a d d l e into her club, all smiles and full of pride, Barbara coughed– blood spluttering from her lips, dripping down her pale features. And she could tell by the transition of Oswald’s smile, as it became an apologetic frown — his words then echoing the look she witnessed in his eyes — this wasn’t meant for her. & part of her was mad at Oswald, for betraying her… for sending out a hit on the woman she LOVED.
Barbara, having owned a business before, was pretty much in charge of making Sirens run as smoothly as possible. & Tabitha, she was ‘the muscle’ around here. So when things weren’t adding up with their business, it was Barbara’s job to sort it out. Meaning Tabitha was left to deal with… OTHER business arrangements. But neither of them had imagined that their last minute change of plans that day would have ended up so fatal.
Barbara let her eyes fall closed. A deep breath sucked into her one remaining functioning lung, but it became her last. And Barbara’s lifeless body rested on the ground of her own club. Dying had never been something Barbara worried about, she never imagined it to catch her so soon. But if she had to die, she was just glad that it had been in place of the one she loved.
