I wanted to apologize for the somewhat haphazardness of this blog lately, but I’ve been away on a vacation to Florida the last few days. Part of that included going to Pensacon, which meant on Sunday I got to meet Catherine Tate!
Catherine was lovely. She was a little late to her table, but she was so nice to everybody and really took time with each person instead of trying to rush through. I was there with @colorofmymindposts and one of our sisters, and we’d gone to the artist’s alley to buy a TARDIS print for her to sign (we’ve never done con autographs before and didn’t realize she’d have her own stuff).
Anyway, since all three of us were getting the one print autographed, we opted out of having it personalized. One of the con workers had been taking people’s names down on post-its and giving them to Catherine so she’d know how to spell them, and when it got to us at the table she complimented the print and artist and then went and wrote a big L at the top - for Lisa, the woman ahead of us in line whose post-it was still sitting to her left.
She seemed to immediately realize that was wrong and got so flustered and was horrified that she felt she’d ruined the print, which had us flustered and apologizing to her and assuring her it was fine (though none of our names start with L, I’m afraid) when the con worker suggested she just write “Love, Catherine Tate”. Catherine objected at first and said something like “They don’t want my love!”, and we quickly told her that yes, we absolutely did. So she did that. (She told us otherwise she was about to just write three more L’s in each corner and claim it was her motif - she’s seriously one of the funniest people on this planet.)
Catherine still felt badly, I suppose, because she also let us get another print signed from the selection on her table (I grabbed one of her and David Tennant as Donna and the Doctor in The Unicorn and the Wasp, obviously) and she took a bunch of selfies with us for no additional charge. It was really way too kind of her. But she was doing additional stuff like that left and right. There was a little boy who’d already met her earlier in the weekend that she filmed a little video with. She’s really just as sweet a person as you could imagine.
Anyway, I also stopped by Kevin Conroy and Diane Pershing’s tables (Batman and Poison Ivy from the Animated Series) to get another artist’s alley print signed by both of them with Batman and the Gotham City Sirens on it. And today, I found a Laurel Lance/Black Canary action figure at a local comic book store that I just had to have. All in all, it’s been a pretty great trip. Thanks for listening to me gush about Catherine Tate.
