Jung Hoseok is filthy rich and bored. Everything he knows in his life is schemes and betrayal and people that approached him for his money. He’s sad and lonely, but puts on a smile on his face everyday because it’s… his usual standard procedure. He likes noise busy places so he always goes to the same coffee shop that has the bright waiters that are always laughing and screaming at the back of the shop. He likes all decors and everything is cute but… The girls asked for the bears and cats and bunnies insistently and he noticed there’s another option on the menu which is the monkey. 

Hoseok cheers for the underdog, so he asked for the monkey. It was very cute and adorable and his coffee got brighter instantly and he wondered why everyone wasn’t asking for this instead of things you see every day in pastries decor.

So every time he went there he asked for the monkey decor. For the first week it was all the same, but the next day he received a monkey and a heart. It was odd, since he never received a heart before. After that it was a cloud, then a star and a weird illuminati pyramid and all sorts of crazy things. It seemed at some point the monkey-person got so carried away that they drew an entire fiction around the monkey, an alternate universe, an odyssey. Hoseok was, to say the least, very intrigued and fascinated. He one day asked to tip the guy that does the monkey decor and left a very fat tip, very very fat, to the point no one waiter had ever received something like this out of a five star restaurant. He had money to spare and he didn’t mind tiping good service. 

Next day he received a message, “Thank you so much!” and the O was a monkey.

One day he didn’t get anything but a regular monkey. It was odd and unusual and felt… off. He was so worried that he caught himself waiting outside of the coffee shop. When all shifts were over and the place was closing down, he saw this one guy with big ears and a cute little mole on the nose that didn’t fit his own gloomy mood, misty eyes, dark circles.

“Hey, you, do you know the guy who makes the monkey decor with the latte foam?”

“Ah… Ah that’s me sir, w-was there a problem with it?” he was worried and distraught.

“No I just… are you alright? There’s usually so much creativity and today it felt like you need someone to talk…”

Kim Taehyung was very surprised. He blinked a few times. Not even his coworkers had offered any help, but the stranger that orders coffee stopped to talk to him. “My cat died… It needed surgery and because of your tip I could pay for it, but it ended up dying in the middle of the procedure.”

“… Oh no.” He got close and pat him in the shoulder. “I know, we can go drink milkshakes and have burgers and talk about your cute cat. I’m sure it’ll be happy to hear about how much you love it from the cat heaven place- Uh, if that’s alright with you?”

The kid reflected for a moment, still taking in what he had said, “It loved to hear compliments, you’re not wrong…” and then, finally, a small tentative smile. He had a rectangular shaped smile that was brighter than the sun, “I still don’t know your name, sir-”

“No sir, I’m Jung Hoseok. Come on, I know a place nearby.”

He then continued to visit the coffee shop after that day, ask for the monkey decor and then wait outside until he could meet that kid that made a bleak world a little bit brighter.
