One thing that really annoys me about playing new music and being a percussionist is when composers ask for a specific instrument and then you only hit it twice in the entire piece. Especially if that instrument is large.
Come on. You put thought into the rest of the instrumentation. If you want me to play this specific thing, MAKE me play the specific thing. Make it important. Everything else about this piece has careful thought into each part of it so why not the percussionists part too?
