Here's is the blog post where Facebook unveils the new groups feature. It talks very specifically about allowing you to stay in contact with groups. Also it is worth noting that is doesn't use the word "network" once. This function makes it easier to navigate the many "selves: we perform by allowing us to perform for one audience at a time.

In my unit response I talk about how when performing the self on Facebook, we are left trying to "entertain multiple audiences" since the many groups we are in and the fronts we use for them are all suddenly watching the same performance. This video actually take a different approach suggesting that Facebook may not be so much for telling other people who we are, since they don't all care, but rather about telling ourselves who we are. While I suggest that there is a problem in trying to maintain all  our various selves for others, the suggestion here is that maybe we are really just making a  scrapbook for ourselves.
