With the integration of technology into or everyday life thanks to its portability and convenience. As a society, we have started to write a new list of social cues to accommodate these new forms of communication.  One of the widely used and therefore most common offender of needing a social cue is texting.  With the lack of social cues such as tone of voice, body language, and even volume it is sometimes very difficult(and awkward) to decipher the hidden meaning in a text.  This article pokes fun at these awkward moments while highlighting a very important aspect of adaptation that our society is currently facing.

In 2011, this video posted on Facebook helped inspire people to join the movement in Egypt that eventually brought down the government of President Hosni Mubarak. A decade ago, it wouldn’t even have been possible. The revolutions of the future may be televised, but they’ll be started by scores of people with the power to reach like-minded individuals thanks to tiny computers in their pockets.

This is an example of the impact and effect that social media has gained on some of the worlds most important areas like politics.  Like the pose says, something like the revolution in Egypt would not have even been possible 10 years ago, and honestly it might not have even been possible 5 years ago.  The wide acceptance of so many politicians other influence members of society is what really gave twitter the power to be involved in such a massive social movement.

Although this is a joke and was made for a life it hightlights a very important interaction with us and the internet.  Especially with the creation of social networking sites, our society has become obsessed with the creation and exposure of our own identities that we are in control of.  Catfish is all about people going to extremes of creating these identities by creating completely knew identities.  With the people and profiles seen on catfish, they are 100% aware of the signals they are giving and how they are giving them.

This video shoes the concept of Social Shaping Technology.  The huge popularity of "instagramming" one's food has inspired this certain restaurant to take advantage of this addiction to the social media to help their business.  They have used the technology to shape and develop a new style of menu i.e.  The Instagram Menu.  It is a smart idea to involve UGC into the food industry which had not really beneiftted from the trend yet.  But now, with the Instagram starting to have an influence on how it works, the food industry can benefit from these new technologies as well.

Mobile apps are changing our buying behavior, with mobile commerce making up 20% of all e-commerce activity. Google estimates that self-driving vehicles could cut the 1.2 million lives lost every year due to car accidents in half.  Google Glass, the search giant's Internet-connected glasses, is one of the most exciting products to come around in a while.  Glass will bring everyday activities closer to our senses, and enhance our interactions with our surroundings.

This article is absolutely mind boggling to me! All of the different data collecting apps that are out and are going to be out now will be changing our lives forever! This related to the surveillance section of our class with all of the different data collecting. Very interesting article!

This is parody on the highly debated question of, is online piracy stealing? This is showing how the music industry overexaggerates illegal downloading and how it is considered a crime when there are other crimes that the government should be more concerned about.

Wearing headphones has now become a cultural meaning, that of I do not want to be interrupted or spoken to, I am in my own world. This is an example of cocooning, by listening to music with headphones on in a public space especially when in transit, it is a way of creating a private bubble in a public space.

This is a great example of political activism online, or as some people see it, slactivism. This video went viral online at the same time the red equal sign started to become everyones profile picture in order to express their stance on gay rights by posting and sharing it via social networking.
