I saw the periodontist today.

It was another follow-up. It was 3 months post-surgery. He looked and said, "it doesn't even look like you had a problem." And by that he means it healed really well and looks as if there was never a problem.

He said I "graduated" and don't need anymore follow-ups. He said I am done seeing him. I thanked him and left.

He's been really good. He's very nice and was gentle during surgery and when the stitches were removed two weeks afterwards. He was also very knowledgeable. He thought my gum recession wasn't from brushing, but rather the structure of my mouth.

Anyway, he was very good and I'm glad the appointments are done because the drive to the office is about 40 minutes and it's hard on my dad to drive all the time.

Anyway, just wanted to update about that.

This is an extra difficult case for a few reasons: First, laying a flap over the buccal exostosis can create tears in the mucosa portion as the tissue becomes extremely thin in the undercut portions. In addition, thinning the bone in the apical portion can expose the apex of the root if not careful. Thirdly, we need to remove a large amount of tissue in the gingivectomy portion of the procedure that it can even reach into the frenum and therefore a frenectomy needs to be planned during or even after this procedure. Lastly, not only does the bone need to be thinned but also the soft tissue portion. Today I had my periodontal surgery

I had my periodontal surgery (gum surgery) today. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. My mouth hurts a bit; it’s not unbearable pain, but it’s definitely not comfortable. He told me to take 600mg of regular Advil every 6 hours if needed. I don’t feel comfortable enough to eat, so I had a meal supplement drink because I don’t want my stitches to come out. 

Tomorrow I start the mouthwash stuff. I just hope that everything heals properly and that there are no problems or complications. I’m supposed to be receiving a call tomorrow to see how things are going. I also have a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks for him to see how everything is healing.
